Job Responsibilities * THIS POSITION IS FOR INTERNAL EMPLOYEES ONLY* With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina. This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 29621. As the Law Enforcement Officer II, working under the general supervision of a Public Safety Lieutenant, you will assist in managing all activities and function within your section. Ensures that new officers receive proper in-service and specialized and remedial training provided by the Division, as instructed by management. Responsible for enforcement of Rules and Regulations of SCDMH and State and Federal Laws. Protects patients, staff, visitors and SCDMH properties. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: * Supervises the shift personnel, prepares shift schedules, assists in plan and arrange transportation of clients throughout the city and state (all transports will be conducted within policy), monitors overtime hours and analyzes reports and logs submitted by subordinates. * Reviews officer's reports on patient abuse, employee misconduct, missing or stolen property, complaints of visitors, deaths, suicidal attempts, and altercations where patients, staff or visitors are injured. Interviews suspects, victims, and witnesses, to establish information that may be used during the investigation or administrative proceedings. Prepares detailed reports to include diagrams/photographs, to enhance probability of making the case. All incident reports will be thoroughly reviewed by the appropriate supervisor. * Ensures compliance with all applicable CALEA standards within your respective sections. * Conducts periodic inspections of section facilities and Public Safety personnel, ensuring that officers receives their annual and or remedial training, weapon qualification, being mindful of suspicious and unusual individuals entering DMH's grounds. Coordinates through manager any required re-cert through CJA, power DMS and or pathlore. Attends job related courses. * Evaluates subordinates performance (EPMS) to ensuring they are completed within policy. * Participates in FTO programs as directed by management. * Maintains an effective communication at the highest level with your facility Administrators and Public Safety management. * Coordinates and supervises Public Safety Officers in maintaining surveillance of the SCDMH properties, by routine checking doors, windows, fences and conducting routine searches of patients, employees and visitors and vehicles pursuant to policy. * Supervises Officers in enforcing all violations of criminal offense, exercising arrest powers as needed. Minimum and Additional Requirements State Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required law enforcement experience. Agency Requirements: A high school diploma. Certification by the Department of Public Safety in accordance with 23-6-430 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 19976. Some positions require commercial license. Note: If any Agency Requirements are listed above, applicants must also meet those requirements to be considered for the position. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Requirements: At least three (3) years of experience in law enforcement, with a minimum of one (l) year in supervisory capacity and certification by the SC Law Enforcement Training Council 23-23-40. Additional Comments The selected candidate should have some knowledge of Public Safety responsibilities in dealing with incarcerated individuals confined to correction institution and knowledge of Search & Seizure law, Fire & safety rules and Contraband Law of Arrest.
