Job Title: Visiting Scholar Department: FAES | Entomology The Forest Insect Ecology Lab (PI Dr. Kayla Perry) and the Landscaped Ecosystems and Forest Entomology (LEAFE) Lab (PI Dr. Sam Ward) are seeking a visiting scholar for a one-year position to assist with ongoing research in the laboratory and field. There is an opportunity to learn skills in experimental design and implementation; collecting insect, earthworm, and plant data in the field; processing and sorting insect samples in the lab; identifying insect specimens to order, family, and species; preparing insect specimens for research voucher collections; database creation and management; recording, cleaning, and archiving data; and general laboratory organization and maintenance. Responsibilities will include setting/collecting traps in the field, plant identification, processing and sorting insect samples, identifying insect specimens, recording, cleaning, and archiving data, data management, and general laboratory organization and cleaning. Additional tasks could be assigned based on interest. Position will require some travel and overnight stay out of state. Responsibilities: Support field research projects - 20% Sample sorting and identification - 25% Laboratory cleaning & maintenance - 5% Web-based data collection - 25% Data base curation - 25% Additional Information: Desired qualifications: Interest and willingness to learn about and work with insects; background in biological or agricultural sciences; must have driver's license; ability to work independently once trained; ability to work outside in varying weather conditions; strong organizational skills. Experience working in the field or laboratory is preferred, but not required. Experience with plant and/or insect identification is a major plus, but also not required. Location: Wooster Science Building (8002) Position Type: Temporary (Fixed Term) Scheduled Hours: 40 Shift: Varying Shifts Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check.
