Program Objectives:
* Follow City of Surprise and Fire-Medical policies, procedures and standards
* Complete all courses the Fire Inspector Trainee syllabus which includes:
* Self-Study the International Code Congress (ICC) International Fire Code Study Companion
* Participate in Field Inspections
* Demonstrate proficiencies in ICC competencies
* Participate in training opportunities
* Obtain an ICC Certified Fire Inspector I certification by the end of the twelve (12) month trainee period
SUMMARY
The Fire Inspector Trainee is an entry-level position participating in an on-the-job training program to learn to independently perform technical fire prevention and inspection duties. Close supervision is initially received from the Fire Marshal and/or a fire code specialist who coordinates the employee's career development path using position specific task books. As training and experience progress, the Inspector Trainee is expected to exercise increased skill, judgement, and independence in completing assignments. Employees in the classification may have a flexible schedule and on occasion, be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays for special events and may be subject to stand-by and call-out. Work schedules and locations are subject to change based on business needs.
The department may promote the employee to the first level of Fire Inspector once the employee has successfully fulfilled the requirements of the development path within the designated timeframe, meets the minimum requirements and has demonstrated proficiency and independently performs the duties of the higher-level classification.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have at time of hire and be able to maintain a valid Arizona Driver License.
Obtain an ICC Certified Fire Inspector I certification by the end of the twelve (12) month trainee period.
SELECTION PROCESS
Applicants whose education, training and experience most closely meet the needs of the position may be invited to participate in a selection process to include a panel interview.
Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include:
* Fingerprinting

* Drug Screen
* E-Verify
* 39 Month Motor Vehicle Department Records Check
