Job Title General Chemistry (CHM 207A) Workshop Leader Department Chemistry & Biochemistry Terms and Hours Approx. 2.5 hrs/wk, Fall Semester Job Category Student Employment Hourly Wage Portland Metro Minimum Wage ($15.95) Job Summary The general chemistry workshop leader will independently lead a workshop section designed to assist students in CHM 207 with conceptual understanding of the course material. They may occasionally also be asked to assist students with homework problems. The workshop leader will be assigned to lead at least one of the following sections each week: * CHM 007A1, Mon 4:10 - 5:35 * CHM 007A2, Mon 5:40 - 7:05 * CHM 007A3, Tues 4:10 - 5:35pm The workshop leader will report to the instructor of the course, Dr. Paige Hall. The assigned classroom for the course will be a shared academic classroom. The approximate hours will be 2.5 per week (~32 h each semester) and the pay rate is the current Portland Metro minimum wage. The course instructor will inform the workshop leader of their performance and any performance deficiencies on an on-going basis. A workshop leader who is not performing to the communicated expectations may be dismissed and replaced with another qualified applicant any time during the semester for which they are hired. Core Duties * The workshop leader must be available during the scheduled period for the workshop. * The workshop leader is expected to be ready to assist the students with relevant weekly course material. * A weekly in-person meeting or email check-in with the instructor is required. * Extra hours are possible to help the professor with grading. * Other relevant duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications * The workshop leader must have successfully completed, with a grade of B or higher, the course that they are the workshop leader for. * The workshop leader must be able to help the students with the material and facilitate discussion, but must not tell students everything they need to do or do the work for them. * The workshop leader should know the concepts covered in the course and how to help others master the material. * The workshop leader is expected to communicate regularly with the course instructor regarding student's progress in the class. * The workshop leader should have good people skills. Preferred Qualifications * Previous workshop leader experience. Physical Requirements * Must be able to physically be present in the classroom.
