We facilitate research efforts and foster strategic partnerships to provide Georgia Tech researchers with an unrivaled advantage, empowering them to lead their disciplines for the advancement of science and society across the globe. In addition to high-performance computing, we incorporate emerging cloud, network, data analytics, and storage technologies. Location Atlanta, GA Job Summary The OIT (Office of Information Technology) department, Home | Office of Information Technology (gatech.edu) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia invites applications for Partnership for Advanced Computing Environment (PACE). Georgia Tech's Partnership for an Advanced Computing Environment (PACE) program is seeking an expert consultant to join our Outreach and Faculty Engagement team. This will be a remote-eligible position that can work on campus or remotely (in or out of state) as preferred. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively on a team and independent projects with the ability to self-direct and adjust to shifts in priorities. This role requires strong software engineering expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to bring innovative solutions to researchers' projects and implement them to deliverable. Responsibilities Define and implement standard operating procedures to incorporate software vulnerability management. * Coordinate with other cyber security and research security personnel to satisfy software audit and compliance requirements. * Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) management, identify and address software vulnerability for the PACE software stack. * Take responsibility for the audit and compliance of restricted software/code (e.g. RSICC/NASA). * Provide domain expertise on CUI (Controlled Unclassified Information) and regulated software. * Provide support on commercial/licensed software in the regulated environment. * Work in partnership with other GT Colleges IT groups to support the deployment of HPC scientific applications and workflows for researchers on PACE systems. * Closely work with other internal PACE units, including the Research Computing Facilitation (RCF) team, to address researchers' needs. * Coordinate review and software access processes with other research cyber security personnel. * Implement best practices around research computing software vulnerability management. * Research and evaluate any new technologies in software vulnerability and closely monitor NIST regulations. * Author and publish scientific papers, reports, and presentations to communicate research results and findings to internal and external audiences. Required Qualifications This position vacancy is an open rank announcement. Final job offer will be dependent on candidate qualifications in alignment with Research Faculty ranks as outlined in section 3.2.1 of the Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook (https://www.policylibrary.gatech.edu/faculty-handbook/3.2.1-research-faculty-hiring-and-promotion-guidelines) Research Scientist II: * A Master's degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree or * A Master's degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree or * A Doctoral degree Senior Research Scientist: * A Master's degree and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or * A Master's degree and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or * A Doctoral degree and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree. Preferred Qualifications The preferred candidate will have: * Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. * Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong sense of initiative and drive for results. * Experience working in developing software for research applications. * An understanding of requirements for mitigating software vulnerabilities and an understanding of security frameworks such as NIST 800-171 or NIST 800-53. * Experience with working within a research secure enclave / regulated research environment (CUI, ITAR, CMMC, etc.) * Experience developing and implementing software lifecycle management. * Experience working in a research-focused institute or university. Additionally, they will have demonstrated experience in (one or more of the following areas): * Building and deploying software on the large-scale cluster using tools like Spack, EasyBuild, CMake, or Make. * Experience supporting commercial HPC software packages such as VASP, Gaussian, Ansys, Abaqus, or NAMD. * Experience with CI/CD, automation testing and git. * Experience working on regulated software. * Experience in parallel software development with MPI, OpenMP or CUDA. * Good experience with at least one advanced programming languages like Python, C/C++, Fortran, Scala. * Experience in Linux with Bash scripting. * Experience building and porting containers with Apptainer, Podman, or Docker. * Experience in writing and publishing research papers at conferences and journals. * Improving team processes through documentation, automation, and knowledge sharing.
