Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary The Fu Lab, led by Dr. Ziao Fu, focuses on understanding the structural and functional mechanisms of membrane proteins involved in essential cellular processes such as signal transduction, mechanosensation, and membrane trafficking. Our research utilizes advanced cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) techniques to study membrane proteins in their native environments. We are seeking a highly organized and motivated Research Technician to assist in establishing a new lab specializing in membrane protein biochemistry and cryo-EM structural biology. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in setting up and maintaining the laboratory, as well as supporting ongoing research activities related to membrane protein purification, reconstitution, and functional characterization. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in a dynamic and collaborative environment. Assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: * Assist in setting up the wet lab, including organizing lab space, setting up equipment, and ordering supplies. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment. * Manage the inventory of laboratory consumables and reagents, coordinating orders to ensure timely availability of materials. * Assist in the purification and reconstitution of membrane proteins using established protocols, and perform routine biochemical and biophysical assays under the guidance of the principal investigator. * Prepare and maintain cell cultures, including bacterial cultures, SF9 insect cells, and mammalian cells, for protein expression and other experimental needs. * Conduct basic molecular biology tasks, such as PCR, cloning, and gel electrophoresis, and assist in the preparation of protein samples for cryo-EM studies, including labeling and purification. * Assist in the installation, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment, including centrifuges, spectrophotometers, and chromatography systems. Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate with vendors for repairs and maintenance. * Maintain accurate records of experiments, protocols, and equipment usage. Assist in the preparation of lab protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs). * Collaborate closely with the principal investigator and other lab members to support research activities. Working Conditions: * This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. * The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
