As a Digital Designer working within the Design Studio, you will be primarily tasked to bridge design and engineering, as you help consistently develop the highest-quality digital prototypes for both interior and exterior of production and concept vehicles. Your role will be integral to the design and development of Tesla vehicles, interpreting and defining design intent while crafting and creating accurate and beautiful 3D models. You will be expected to develop high quality, production-ready surfaces and be a trusted source, advisor and problem solver. It is expected that your work displays artistry, imagination and innovation. Our world-class team operates with a non-conventional automotive product development philosophy of high interdisciplinary collaboration, flat organizational structure and technical contribution at all levels. You will be expected to challenge and be challenged, to create, and to innovate. * Develop forms from 2D sketches and renderings * High Level concept and Class-A surface modeling skills in Bezier math techniques * Help create and develop new digital design tools for the team - we are always evolving * Mentor junior team members as deemed necessary * Develop section proposals, preferred. Be a team leader and when requested fully supervise team members, managing projects, assigning tasks, checking surface quality and giving guidance, preferred * Regularly review all data for quality and use of "best modeling practice" as defined by Tesla, providing feedback as needed, preferred * Take active measures to ensure data deliveries are met on time managing resources as deemed necessary, preferred * Minimum 5 years of ICEM Surf/Alias experience in an automotive environment * Catia V5 experience also considered * Strong interpersonal and communication skills * An ability to comprehend dimensional variation and its impact on nominal surface gap and flush conditions as well as an ability to develop alternative surface solutions to minimize the visibility of variation, preferred * Mastery of multiple software packages and ability to apply the best software to use for any given design phase, preferred * A comprehensive understanding of material selection and impact on surfacing opportunities. This might include material behaviors beyond "free state" such as seals, wrapped foams and carpets that might deform on install, preferred * Experience leading a team developing Class-A surfaces for vehicle programs, including checking data for "best modeling practice" and providing feedback as necessary, preferred
