We're expanding our Commercial Segment, seeking to a hire a Vice President of Engineering who will focus the development, organization and execution of New Product Development (NPD) within an Electro-Mechanical and Embedded System environment for our Access Egress Hardware Group (AEHG). This position will drive the future growth of our division by orchestrating market requirements into products that bring value to our customers. This position will sit onsite full-time in New Haven, CT at ASSA ABLOY Americas corporate headquarters. However, this individual will need to work a hybrid schedule between Berlin, CT and New Haven, CT. This position will report to the President, Access Egress Hardware Group. What you will be doing * Provide hands-on leadership to the AEHG Shared Services Engineering overseeing cross-functional teams sitting in various time zones, which will encompass multiple product brands across various operating units. * Lead multiple product development design teams for new product development as well as sustaining engineering across multiple disciplines including Project Management, Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware, Software, and Test Engineering. * Lead and manager New Product Development by: * Collaborating with Executive Management to set product goals aligned with business objectives. * Partnering with Product Management to create market-leading products. * Working with Product Management and Operations to enhance customer value and reduce costs. * Acts as the key advisor to the President of the AEHG on technical matters. * Proven track record of leading projects through multiple gates ensuring on-time product launches. * Build and develop a collaborative partnership within both engineering and cross-functional departments. * Establish robust systems for resource planning which entails having development plans in place for high-potential employees creating a structured succession plan. * Attract and retain top technical talent and align capabilities with current and future business needs. * Promote continuous learning, setting productive challenges that reinforce and foster a more meaningful work environment. * Manage annual AEHG budget in support of our business goals. * Delivery year over year (YoY) cost savings. * Manage the ASSA ABLOY Innovation system using Lean principals executing a gate-way driven process to deliver product development projects. * Develop and maintain knowledge of market competitors as input into portfolio strategy. * Lead the development of our annual Technology Plan Roadmap while working with relevant members of the Leadership Team to develop the details of the strategic operating plan for the business. * Participate in customer, collaborator and distributor visits, demonstrations, and training as needed. * Oversee the Root Cause Analysis (8D) of EM-EAC (Electro-Mechanical- Electronic Access Controls) product. * Drive the use of effective tools and methodologies such as FMEA, DFMA, 8(D), Agile, etc. * Effectively communicates and take ownership of project progress and issues/risks to the President and Leadership Team. * Work with the quality and regulatory department to ensure that all work complies with regulatory directives in the Company's focus markets. * Work closely with the innovation engineering team to ensure product idea IP is captured and submitted for patent protection, maximizing the value of our IP portfolio. What we are looking for * Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science required. * Must have demonstrated work experience in New Product Development (NPD) within an Agile environment. * Proven track record in delivering and speaking to successful product launches. * Must hold a minimum experience of 15 years of field experience including 5 years in a leadership role managing large engineering teams. * Must have a technical engineering background in Electro-Mechanical and Firmware/Embedded System development. * Ability to effectively communicate and influence stakeholders throughout the organization (inside and outside engineering) to drive goals to project completion. * Experience working in a collaborative global organization. * Proven track record of taking new products from inception through development and successful commercialization. * Experienced with innovations systems driven by lean principals and a gate-way development process. * Demonstrated experience managing intellectual property creation and portfolio management.
