FRAMINGHAM PUBLIC SCHOOLS FRAMINGHAM HIGH SCHOOL TITLE: Internship Coordinator 2024-2025 School year POSITION SUMMARY: The collaboration between the Internship Coordinator and the Career Development Coordinator is instrumental in managing student internships at the College and Career Center's Student Success Academy. Moreover, the Coordinator will spearhead the development of programs and practices at FHS, facilitating work-based learning opportunities that benefit students aspiring to pursue post-secondary education. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. This job description does not constitute an employment agreement between the employer and employee, and is subject to change by the employer, as the needs of the employer and the requirements of the job change. * Foster Positive Relationships: Establish and maintain cooperative, constructive, and genuine relationships with both students and faculty. Build rapport with students, offering support and guidance throughout their internship journey. * Student Meeting Coordination: Plan and conduct regular meetings with student interns to address pertinent topics such as career exploration, professional work attitude and behavior, and fostering positive employer-employee relationships. Create a supportive space for students to share their experiences and seek guidance. * Facilitate School-Internship Collaboration: Serve as a liaison between school administrators, faculty, students, and internship host partners. Collaborate with stakeholders to optimize student learning opportunities and experiences. Ensure effective communication, coordination, and alignment among all parties involved. * Data Analysis and Program Evaluation: Collect and analyze data regarding the program's progress in meeting student needs. Use insights gained to make necessary adjustments and improvements. Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of the internship program and recommend enhancements accordingly. * Caregiver Communication: Provide outreach and information to caregivers regarding internship placement, progress, and schedules as needed. Ensure open lines of communication, keeping caregivers informed and engaged in their student's internship experience. * Administrative Responsibilities: Maintain accurate administrative records, including preparing reports and correspondence related to the internship program. Ensure proper documentation of student placements, evaluations, and progress reports. * Job Placement Supervision: Offer job placement supervision to students, monitoring their progress on the job in collaboration with employers. Evaluate student performance based on established criteria and provide constructive feedback for growth and development. * Consultation and Collaboration: Consult with teachers, administrators, and relevant stakeholders on matters relating to the academic progress, employability, and daily schedule of each student engaged in an internship. Collaborate to address any challenges or opportunities that may arise during the internship period. * Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all aspects of the program adhere to federal and state labor regulations, workman's compensation laws, laws governing student employment, and school safety policies. Maintain a safe and compliant environment for student interns. * Flexibility and Additional Responsibilities: Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in fulfilling responsibilities as determined by the vice principal or designee. Willingly undertake additional tasks or projects as needed to support the overall success of the internship program. PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about and may be required to traverse occasionally throughout the school building. The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is expected to lift at least 20 lbs (i.e. books, school supplies, etc.). The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Occasionally s/he operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). The employee must be able to input information into a computer and as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person and on the telephone. In the classroom, the employee must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide instruction. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces. The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise. The employee interacts with students, parents, and other staff members. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students. REPORTS TO: Vice Principal of the Student Success Academy SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None. FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) CLASSIFICATION: This position is classified as Non-Exempt (Hourly).
