Position details:
Performs various resident care activities involved in caring for the personal needs and comfort of the residents. Duties include administering medications, toileting, dressing, bathing, meal preparation, recording vital signs, and performing treatments as assigned.
Requirements:
1 year of medication administration
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administers medications to residents, records vital signs, and performs treatments as assigned.
Assists residents with activities of daily living including bathing, grooming, dressing, oral care, etc.
Observes and maintains accurate record of resident’s physical and mental condition; reports any unusual signs or changes in resident’s condition or behavior, accidents, and/or injuries to appropriate nursing personnel.
Assists residents at meal and snack time. Duties include distributing food trays, snacks
and juices, feeding or assisting residents feed themselves, etc.
Assists residents with ambulating, transferring, positioning, and range of motion exercises.
Answers call lights and responds to residents’ requests for assistance.
Keeps residents room clean, safe and well supplied by filling water pitchers, picking up, making beds, changing linens, removing trash and soiled clothing, etc.
Participates in staff meetings, training and inservice programs.
Builds and maintains trusting relationships with residents and their families; provides emotional support as needed.
Performs resident care in a compassionate manner in accordance with the mission and values of Holland Home.
Understands residents’ rights and incorporates them into daily practice.
Meets Holland Home’s standards for attendance.
Supports and models by conduct the Holland Home Code of Conduct to residents/clients/patients, employees and public.
Meets Holland Home’s standards for confidentiality.
Utilizes the Positive Approach to Care™ methodology in accordance with the mission and values of Holland Home.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in the orientation of newly hired Resident Care Aides and Medication Technicians
Transports residents to meals, appointments and various activities and programs within the building.
Provides after-death resident care as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of medication administration
Successful completion of the medication administration class and related testing.
Experience working with the elderly is desirable.
SPECIAL SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Ability to work with elderly residents who may at times be ill, disabled, confused, hostile and/or emotionally upset.
Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, residents and their families in situations requiring courtesy, tact, respect and patience.
Written skills necessary to maintain required documentation.
Ability to read, speak, write and understand the English language clearly.
Ability to meet Holland Home’s standards for attendance.
Ability to meet the general health requirements as set forth by the polices of Holland Home, which includes a physical examination and TB testing.
MENTAL & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Pressures related to completing required documentation in a timely manner and dealing with the concerns and emotional needs of residents and their families.
Ability to transfer/ lift/ turn/position/assist residents, reach/stoop/bend/kneel/crouch, and utilize the equipment and devices necessary in providing prescribed care to residents.
Regular exposure to physical fatigue due to continuous walking and standing.
