Position Type: Student Services Date Posted: 5/31/2024 Location: Student Services   Additional Information: Show/Hide SEGUIN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT Job Description JOB TITLE: School Social Work Intern REQUIRED HOURS: 420, 360, or 540 REPORTS TO: Social Worker/Field Supervisor Campus Principal DATE REVISED: May 2024 PRIMARY PURPOSE: To provide direct services and case management that support student wellbeing, as well as the overall social, emotional, and mental wellness implementation goals of the district. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: * Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or Master of Social Work (MSW) In Progress * Interest and commitment to working collaboratively with students and staff in a K-12 public educational setting is required. Special Knowledge/Skills: * Knowledge of trauma informed practices. * Knowledge of evidence based interventions. * Knowledge of community resources and their impact upon youth and families. * Ability to research, develop, interpret and implement interventions and programs. * Ability to follow guidelines and be adaptable to change. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Performance Effectiveness: Instructional Program and Supports * Provides direct case management services, to include intake assessments, goal setting, skill building, and progress monitoring to assigned clients. * Works with students and families to connect them to vital personal and community resources. * Provide follow-up and implementation or reintegration plans for students who are returning to their home campus, following a District Alternative Education Placement (DAEP), Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) placement, or inpatient hospitalization, as applicable to caseload; and comprehensive follow up to all clients served. * Maintains complete and timely documentation to support services rendered. * Engages and collaborates with district staff through individual meetings, advisory meetings, regular newsletters, website and other electronic, or social media sites as deemed appropriate. Personal Effectiveness: * Take initiative to assist students, teachers, and/or administrators, as appropriate. * Works in harmony with peers and associates. * Responds to suggestions for improvement in a positive manner. * Displays professionalism in dealing with students, parents, staff, and community. * Is punctual and maintains a professional appearance. * Has a positive attitude, displays self-management and effective communication. * Collaborates in problem solving. * Follows district guidelines as instructed. * Seeks professional growth through continuing education and personal development. EVALUATION: Student interns are required to develop an educational learning plan (ELP) to guide the practice experience in the agency setting. This agreement is developed at the beginning of the placement with the field agency supervisor/instructor and used during the one-on-one weekly supervision meetings to evaluate student's progress. Student interns are formally evaluated two times during their field practicum assignment, a mid-term progress assessment and final evaluation based on the competencies of a professional social worker as outlined by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), however, ongoing evaluation will occur weekly and be discussed during supervision sessions. The agency field instructor/supervisor is responsible for overseeing the student intern's progression through the practicum and completes these evaluations.
