Summary The Dhindsa Lab at Baylor College of Medicine invites applications for an open Research Technician II position. Our interdisciplinary team is focused on using innovative research approaches to advance research in neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases, including autism spectrum disorder, epilepsy, intellectual disability, and Parkinson's Disease. We leverage human genetics, CRISPR-based technologies, and human iPSC-based models to uncover disease mechanisms and new therapeutic strategies. Under the direction and general supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Research Assistant II will work in collaboration with other lab members to conduct research using knowledge in biomedical sciences - biochemistry, molecular biology, molecular virology, microbiology, neurobiology, chemical biology, and/or molecular genetics. Design, organize, and conduct specialized experiments using established scientific protocols and procedures. The Research Assistant will compile the research results which will be reviewed and approved by the Principal Investigator. The primary focus of our research is to elucidate the pathophysiology of genetic diseases, especially neurodevelopmental disorders, by working with human samples and human stem cell models. Our integrated approach combines wet and dry lab methods, leveraging cell systems, transgenic models, and computational biology, to identify and validate potential therapeutic targets. Job Duties * Conduct biomedical research using biochemistry, molecular biology, molecular virology, microbiology, and molecular genetics. * Plan and conduct research experiments, develop techniques, and prepare SOPs required for specific research projects. * Assist the Principal Investigator with data analysis organization publication and may assist with preparation of grant applications. * Maintain efficiency, manage lab supplies and inventory, and oversee ordering, maintenance, repair, and disposal of lab equipment and reagents. * Maintain and passage human induced pluripotent stem cell lines * Perform tissue collection in mice to examine brain anatomy and monitor developmental alterations. * Perform a broad range of molecular biology assays, including DNA and RNA extraction from cells and tissues, immunofluorescence, Western blots, qPCR, molecular cloning * Maintain careful and detailed documentation of experiments, collected data, records review and data entry, and data analysis in lab notebooks and databases. * Attend and present at group and individual meetings. Analyze data, troubleshoot problems, and generate data reports to determine feasibility. * Oversee the purchase, setting up, and maintenance of lab equipment * Monitoring inventory of supplies, managing the safety in the lab, managing maintenance contracts, and contacting service personnel for repairs. * Train and supervise less experienced research staff * Assist Faculty with planning projects for the laboratory. * Moves and lifts laboratory supplies, equipment, and animal research related storage. * Plan and conduct research experiments, develop techniques, and prepare SOPs required for specific research projects. Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field. * Three years of relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications * Master's degree in basic science or a related field. * Experience culturing human stem cells * Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
