PURPOSE The Technical Director, Development Engineering is the leader of a multidisciplinary team of inventors and R&D engineers who will define and develop new products for Form Factor's expanding portfolio, including hardware and systems for the test and characterization of RF and digital structures. This key position will have visibility to the senior management of the company as well as the external technical community. There will be a hands-on aspect of this role, including design simulation and measurement of the systems the team invents and creates. The ideal candidate has a desire to learn new things, think outside the box to deliver creative solutions to hard problems, and is an excellent collaborator/team player. This person must be comfortable in an R&D environment, able to initiate and lead multiple objectives at once, and thrive in a fast paced, demanding high tech environment. An uncompromising sense of quality is essential in this role. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Lead an engineering team to define and develop new products and systems for the test and characterization of RF and digital structures, including setting technical direction and mentoring. * Manage and develop the R&D engineering team, including hiring responsibility, planning projects, and participating in annual expense and capital budgeting cycles. * Participate in collecting customer input and translating customers' test requirements into actionable development strategies. * Create RF designs, schematics, and layouts of new test products. * Validate RF designs with simulations and hands-on lab measurements. * Select suitable RF and support components for new test systems and instrumentation. * Lead initial system power-up activities. * Select and qualify appropriate vendors. * Document final product design and performance. * Contribute to optimization of calibration methodologies. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED * Bachelor's, Master's in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent. * Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in Design, Product Engineering, or Applications, Development or Product Engineering. * Minimum of 5 years of managing or leading a team of senior engineers. * Expertise in RF design and measurements (VNA, spectrum analyzer, and signal sources, etc) is required. * Proficiency with design/simulation tools such as MWO or ADS (or equivalent) is required. * Proficiency in RF layout with suitable PCB design tools is required. * Proficiency performing full field RF simulation using HFSS/CST is desired. * Experience in training and technical support is a plus. * Knowledge of semiconductor wafer sort or final test is a plus. * Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas effectively in writing and verbally is required. * Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills are required. The pay range for this role in Beaverton is between $173,200 and $227,325. The pay range may differ in other locations. FormFactor maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs and market demands. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
