"Primary Purpose: Ensure buildings and grounds are cleaned by using routine procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds. Qualifications:Education/Certification High School Diploma GED or 3-4 years of experience required Special Knowledge/Skills Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures Aptitude for successful completion of tasks Demonstrated ability to coordinate personnel to accomplish tasks Broad knowledge of school housekeeping Ability to perform minor plumbing and electrical repairs Ability to operate and train in cleaning equipment and the proper use of cleaning supplies Ability to speak, read, and write English Bilingual Spanish, preferred Ability to utilize technology resources relevant to the position Experience Six months of custodial services experience Major Responsibilities and Duties: Cleaning and Maintaining FacilitiesWork cooperatively with principals and supervisors to ensure a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations. Coordinate and plan daily with the custodian night lead to determine building needs. Ensure the building perimeter is free of debris, and perform upkeep and minor plumbing and carpentry repairs. Inspection and Repair Perform the first level of minor maintenance repairs, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, and carpentry. Inspect buildings for: graffiti, broken/cracked windows, damaged exterior doors, cracked/loose bricks, plugged down spouts, and foundation concerns. Report, repair, and/or clean as appropriate. Inspect the building interior and gym for damaged, missing, or broken: hardware, partitions, ceiling tiles, structural ceiling, floor, wall tile, entrance doors, carpet or floor tile, cabinet hinges, boards, and closet doors. Report, repair, and/or clean as appropriate. Report repairs through Facilities online workflow system Conduct weekly checks of roof, remove debris and trash, report damages; and determine the difference between roof and condensation leaks by removing ceiling tiles, when possible. Service the building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system by: checking disconnects, resetting circuit breakers, checking and adjusting thermostats, and cleaning air supply and return grill. Service the building electrical system by: changing ballasts, changing light bulbs and emergency exit lights, replacing receptacle covers, resetting circuit breakers and replacing and repairing guards over light fixtures. Service the building plumbing system by: installing valve kits, turning off water to appliances and fixtures, replacing washers in faucets, unclogging restroom fixtures, and lighting pilots on appliances and water heaters. Weekly unfold and inspect gym bleachers, looking for damaged/missing boards and/or hardware, loose screws, etc. Repair or report as appropriate. Assist in maintaining supply and equipment inventory and request supplies as needed. Other Respond in a timely manner when contacted regarding urgent situations or emergencies (during or outside of normal business hours) Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible; and serve as a role model for staff, students, and public Perform other duties as assigned. Safety Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform duties, including lifting, and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor. Contribute to preventing accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise and evaluate the performance of custodial staff. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and hand tools; buffer, stripper, wet/dry vacuum cleaner, shampooer, cleaning chemicals Posture: Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladder, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, overhead reaching Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance on a daily basis Visual: Use of depth perception; distinguish basic colors Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; on rooftops; frequent exposure to hot and cold temperature and humid conditions, electrical hazards, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise and vibration; work around moving objects and vehicles, ladders, scaffolding, pallet jacks and lift equipment; occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress This document describes the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties that may be assigned or skills that may be required.
