Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED, successful completion of a TCOLE-approved Basic Peace Officer Course, has passed the TCOLE exam. Possess a valid Texas Class C driver's license. Must successfully pass the U.S. Department of Justice Security Risk Assessment. Must pass polygraph, background checks, drug testing, and psychological and physical agility testing. Proficient with all equipment utilized in the performance of assigned duties, including but not limited to firearms, restraints, less lethal force weapons and techniques, automobiles, communications equipment, personal computers, and investigative and surveillance equipment. The Department also implements programs that are aimed at preserving the assets of UTMB. Job Description: * To enforce the law, provide service, information, and aid to all citizens as circumstances require, prevent crime, suppress disturbances, investigate criminal offenses, and arrest offenders. * Responsible for enforcement duties for the protection, safety, and welfare of students, employees, visitors, and all property within the area under the control and jurisdiction of The University of Texas System, including primary jurisdiction in all counties where the UT System has real property interest and secondary jurisdiction in all other Texas counties. * Exercises independent judgment within the limits prescribed by law, Rules and Regulations of the Board of Regents, institutional rules and regulations, and Director of Police departmental policies and procedures. SALARY RANGE: Starting Pay for Police Officer (Basic TCOLE License): $52,441 (<1 year of service) Police Officer: $54,014 (<2 years of service) Police Officer: $57,304 (<3 years of service) Police Officer: $59,023 (≥4 years of service) Sr. Police Officer: $62,715 (< 4 years experience and must have an Intermediate TCOLE License) Sr. Police Officer: $76,452 (≥ 4 years of experience) Sr. Police Officer: $81,895 (≥ 8 years of experience) Sr. Police Officer: $85,513 (≥ 12 years of experience) Sr. Police Officer: $89,464 (≥16 years of experience) Sr. Police Officer: $93,414 (≥ 20 years of experience) TCOLE Certification Incentive Pay up to $1,620 annually College Education Incentive Pay up to $1,140 annually EDUCATION: Required: High school diploma or GED, successful completion of a TCOLE-approved Basic Peace Officer Course, has passed the TCOLE exam. Preferred: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or at least 30 college credit hours. Work Schedule: Police Officers must be willing to work assigned shifts, which may include day shift, evening shift, or overnight midnight shifts. Police Officers must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions, which may include summer heat, winter cold, rain, and or hurricane situations, and involves a degree of hazard. SPECIFIC JOB-RELATED DUTIES: * To perform law enforcement duties on the property under the control and jurisdiction of the University of Texas System. * Preserve the peace using all lawful means, interceding, when authorized by law, to prevent or suppress crime. * Execute all lawful processes. * Arrest offenders with and without a warrant when authorized by law. * Investigate criminal offenses to detect and arrest criminals and recover stolen or lost property. * Attempt to locate missing persons. * Enforce traffic law by detecting violations, making violator contacts, placing violators in custody, or issuing citations or warnings. * Investigate motor vehicle collisions. * Prepare various written reports narrating law enforcement and police activities. * Give testimony in the criminal courts of this state and the United States. * Confers with prosecuting attorneys, preserves evidence, and maintains confidential information. * Confers with local law enforcement, criminal justice, and emergency response agencies on matters of mutual interest. * Adheres to internal controls and reporting structures. Equipment: Proficient with all equipment utilized in the performance of assigned duties, including but not limited to firearms, restraints, less-lethal force weapons and techniques, automobiles, communications equipment, personal computers, and investigative and surveillance equipment. PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES: Duties involve driving, walking, running, standing, stooping, climbing, crouching, pushing, jumping over, pulling, carrying, reaching above the head, lifting, lowering, hand-wrist and elbow motion, grasping, and holding. Good physical condition ad vision, ability to hear and speak. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Occasionally: Reaching, lift/carry more than 50 lbs., push/pull more than 50 lbs. Frequently: Standing, walking, sitting, lift/carry 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., push/pull 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., use computer/keyboard Continuously: Lift/Carry up to 10 lbs., push/pull up to 10 lbs.
