Belly of the Beast

is seeking a principled, fearless and experienced journalist to lead our coverage of U.S. policy toward Cuba. As our Senior Correspondent, you will be responsible for researching, writing, and reporting breaking news, feature stories, and in-depth investigative pieces that provide much-needed context to U.S.-Cuba relations. This role requires strong writing and editing skills, the ability to work under tight deadlines, and a commitment to producing factual, balanced and trenchant reporting. You will be a key member of a spirited team of creative, passionate and principled journalists and filmmakers striving to make a positive impact in U.S.-Cuba relations while forging a new model of cross-border journalistic collaboration. This position is remote. Ideal candidates would be based in Washington, D.C. or Miami. Responsibilities: Stay up-to-date with current events related to Cuba and U.S.-Cuba relations. Develop and maintain a network of sources. Identify and pitch stories. Conduct thorough research and investigation. Write clear, concise and compelling investigative articles, feature stories, blog-style newsletter pieces and social media posts. Manage and edit our weekly newsletter “Cuba in Context.” Edit the work of other journalists on the team as well as contributing journalists and writers. Collaborate with our videographers, video editors, and other journalists to produce video reports and documentaries. Report on camera and appear in interviews on other media outlets to talk about our work Ensure all reporting is accurate, contextualized and adheres to ethical journalism standards. Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and managing time effectively. Candidate Requirements: Passionate drive to expose injustice and abuse of power. A nose for a story and an eye for how to frame it in a way that challenges mainstream narratives. Proven experience in investigative journalism and news reporting. Excellent writing and storytelling abilities. Rigorous editing and proofreading skills. Strong research and analytical abilities. Proficient in using digital tools and platforms for news gathering and distribution. Strong ethical judgment and commitment to journalistic integrity. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion. Critical perspective of corporate media and its role in reinforcing U.S. government policies and narratives Preferred Candidates Will Possess: Familiarity with Cuba and U.S.-Cuba relations or a genuine interest in the subject matter. Fluency in Spanish or strong Spanish-language skills. Experience with multimedia storytelling, including video and audio production. Proficiency in using social media platforms for news distribution.
