Parish Name: St. Patrick Catholic Church Location: 3821 Adams St, Carlsbad, CA 92008 Reports to: Director of Youth Ministry FLSA Status: Non-Exempt; hourly Employment Type: Part Time Pay Rate: $18-$22/hr. Position Summary: Assists the Director of Youth Ministry in implementing a comprehensive youth ministry program, reaching students through eight components as outlined in the U.S. Catholic Bishops document "Renewing the Vision of Youth Ministry". Those components are Catechesis, Leadership, Evangelization, Pastoral Care, Justice and Service, Prayer and Worship, Advocacy, & Community Life. Also helps with overseeing the running of the youth office. Primary Objectives * To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today. * To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community. * To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person. Duties and Responsibilities Assist in running Year One & Two Confirmation Sessions which include the following: * Work with approximately 200 youth and adults * Organizing small groups * Communication with families * Communication with Faith Formation Admin. Assistant * Assist in leading 16 - 18 two-hour sessions on Sunday & Wed. nights * Making sure each youth participates in a justice & service project * Assist with setup and take down at parent gatherings * Assist in Recruiting Adult Facilitators (ideally 1 facilitator for every 8 - 10 youth) * Assist in Recruiting Jr. Facilitators (male & female for every adult facilitator) * At Director of Youth Ministries Direction, communicates with families in a timely manner Assist with Year One & Two Confirmation Retreats * Assist in any aspect of retreats involving youth and adults as directed by DYM including * Organizing small groups & cabin sleeping arrangements * Take notes at retreat meetings and review with DYM within a few days * Assist in Listening to, & evaluating all talks for retreats * Reviewing supply list for retreats prior to DYM placing order * Organize items needed for retreat * Be the eyes and ears for DYM of special needs of youth while on retreat * Keep/In charge of binder with parish permission slips, camp permission slips, & camp waivers. Other duties * Attend High School Core Team Meetings and events * Communicate w/faith formation admin assistant * Attend monthly diocesan in-services * Meet with individual youth on an as needed basis * Make sure Youth Ministry social stays up to date and relevant * Promote events via social media * Communicate coming years calendar by beginning of March to DYM * Continue professional development * Attend L.A. congress each year * Attend NCYC with High School YM when they attend Position Specifications Requirements * Active member of the Roman Catholic Knowledge and ability to share Catholic faith to youth. * Pastoral mentoring, listening skills, crisis intervention and referral skills, group processing and facilitation * Organizational skills, including time management, delegation, planning, and * Ability and experience to design and implement a variety of youth-oriented Ability to work with parents and children of all ages. * Successful completion of the Parish Safe Environment * Bachelor's degree in a related field * Diocesan certification in youth ministry (or working toward it) * Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment. * Spanish-speaking would be an advantage Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to remain in an office at a computer workstation and access information from a computer and use a telephone. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the office, as well as maneuver throughout the parish facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend meetings or events. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
