Position Summary This position will serve as a Clinical Research Coordinator Intern within the Research Coordination and Management Unit (RCMU). The RCMU is a centralized research support unit of the North Carolina Translational and Clinical Science's (NC TraCS) Institute that provides short-term research study management and start-up services to UNC Investigators. Staff within the unit provide support to a variety of clinical research projects and Investigators across UNC, and work closely with the RCMU team and other TraCS colleagues to support the mission of the RCMU and NC TraCS. The RCMU's internship program is seeking a candidate who is interested in: * Pursuing a career in clinical research in an academic medical setting * Advancing equity and quality of clinical research in underrepresented populations, * Contributing to increasing diversity in the clinical research workforce The selected candidate will be provided with an extensive introduction to the fundamental skills required to embark on a career as a research coordinator. The intern will be exposed to the principles and application of good clinical practice and research regulations. This position will work alongside RCMU staff to assist with providing programmatic and operational support and direct study support across various patient populations by recruiting, consenting and enrolling participants to research studies, performing study procedures and collecting data per study protocols. The intern will work with RCMU leadership and other units within NC TraCS to contribute to diversifying research at the University and strategic planning for inclusive research practices. Upon completion of the 9-12 month position, the intern will have been exposed to the requisite skills and experience necessary to competitively seek a full-time research coordinator position. Applicants from backgrounds historically underrepresented in clinical research are especially encouraged to apply. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Required qualifications include: * Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to interact with a variety of people in a professional, effective, diplomatic manner, with excellent communication skills and a focus on customer service. * Ability to work independently, as well as function as part of a team. * Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Preferred qualifications include: * Previous exposure to the principles of clinical research. * Previous experience working with underrepresented and underserved populations. * Fluency in Spanish that can be applied in the clinical setting is a plus.
