General Definition of Work The Long-Term Guest Teacher Substitute (non-certified), under moderate supervision, performs intermediate level work with limited decision-making discretion providing for a safe, orderly, and positive classroom environment in the absence of the regularly assigned teacher. The non-certified long-term guest teacher substitute will effectively manage the classroom and provide instruction for students based on teacher provided lesson plans, school provided lesson plans, or grade/department level created plans aligned to curriculum. This position is assigned at the building level for the entire school year and fills teacher absences as assigned by principal. The Long-Term Guest Teacher Substitute (non-certified) performs complex work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures related to classroom instruction and student supervision under the direction of the principal. Salary/Status Monthly Rate: $3,534.96 Full-time Temporary /10 months with benefits Reports To Principal Place of Work The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time. Essential Functions * Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures * Study and follow the curriculum and lesson plan as provided by the absent teacher or the principal * Effectively manage the classroom and provide instruction for students based on teacher provided lesson plans, school provided lesson plans, or grade/department level created plans aligned to curriculum * Apply various teaching techniques (including interactive methods and game-based activities) to encourage participation and facilitate learning * Prepare educational materials, such as notes, exercises and additional resources * Assign classwork and homework * Take attendance according to school policy * Grade students' assignments and provide constructive feedback * Report any incidents regarding students' behavior in and out of the classroom * Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, or any breach of the district's Code of Student Conduct to the school administration as soon as possible * Establish and maintain a safe and orderly learning environment * Oversee school equipment and ensure students use it properly * Participate in grade-level meetings, faculty meetings, student intervention teams and other committees normally assigned to the regular classroom teacher * Complete local, state, or federal surveys and reports accurately and promptly * Create an inclusive environment with positive communication * Perform related work as assigned or required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities * Knowledge of lesson plan development and implementation * Ability to implement classroom management strategies * Ability to work with student data * Ability to maintain professional and emotional control under stress * Ability to understand complex, multi-stepped written and oral instructions * Ability to reflect appropriate response to situations, while maintaining a professional and personal demeanor * Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to schools * Ability to communicate effectively * Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships * Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums * Ability to problem-solve utilizing sound judgment * Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding school system business * Ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgement Education and Experience * Bachelor's degree preferred * Associate degree OR two years of higher education equivalent to 48 credit hours OR Ability to pass a formal assessment (ACT Workkeys and 96 hours) required * Equivalent combination of experience and education Special Requirements * Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation * Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings * Minimum age 21 years old
