Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility: A Staff Athletic Trainer Intern will gain knowledge and skills that will help them to continue to pursue educational requirements and on the job experience for pursuing future positions as a Certified Athletic Trainer. Staff Athletic Trainer Intern works under the supervision of the Sports Medicine Director and assists in the supervision of the care of student athletes competing in the University's athletic programs. Our athletic trainer interns are responsible for the assisting the certified athletic trainers in the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries within the University's comprehensive sports medicine program. A Staff Athletic Trainer Intern will follow all Federal, State, NATA, BOC, and NAIA laws, rules, regulations and ethical standards that apply. Under the direct supervision of Sport Medicine Director Exempt Employee Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities: * Assist with the Prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses * Assist with the Treatment/Rehabilitation of athletic injuries. * Assist with the Athletic training administrative duties. * Assist with coordination and scheduling of medical coverage for home and away competitions as assigned by the Sports Medicine Director * Learn to work with doctors and other allied health professionals to deliver care to student athletes * Learn about Submitting/filing accurate insurance claims * Learn how to Refer and set up injured athletes to the appropriate provider * Learn how to discuss an injured athletes' status with coaching staff * Work with team doctor and other allied health professionals to assist in delivering care to student athletes * Other duties as assigned by the Sports Medicine Director This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.All Athletic Trainers must adhere to all established NATA-BOC ethical standards and Bethel Sports Medicine Protocols and Polices. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge/Education: Bachelor's Degree Experience: 1-3 Years experience in collegiate athletics Certifications: CPR Bachelor's Degree 1-3 years of experience in the collegiate setting CPR certification through AHA or ARC Desired Qualifications Knowledge/Education: Master's Degree Experience: Collegiate athlete Licensure, Registration, Certification: Certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification, Tennessee Licensure Enrolled or planning to enroll in a Master's level Athletic Training Program Collegiate athlete with a knowledge of the Athletic Training profession CPR Certification through AHA or ARC, manual therapy Certification Physical Requirements: Work requires the physical demands of standing, bending, lifting, stooping or performing other work requiring light physical exertion (up to 30 pounds) on an occasional basis (up to 15% of time) and frequent walking; or moderate physical exertion (up to 50 pounds) on an intermittent basis (not a routine part of the job). Environmental Conditions: Work involves frequent exposure to unpleasant working conditions or undesirable elements, may involve exposure to a variety of elements which are potentially hazardous or harmful which require exercise of well defined precautions for protection from injury or illness.
