What we want The Postdoctoral Research Associate is responsible is to use 3D single particle tracking methods and super-resolution fluorescence microscopy to decipher structural and function properties of nuclear pore complexes. This is a demanding project that requires considerable technical and analytical expertise. The work continues a long-standing project building on recent breakthroughs in rapid multi-color 3D imaging. Structural and dynamical aspects of the nuclear pore permeability barrier and cargo trafficking pathways will be resolved with high spatial (< 10 nm) and millisecond-scale resolution. What you need to know Other Requirements and Factors: Ability to work beyond normal office hours and/or on weekends as needed. Ability to travel to various locations. Required Education: * PhD in Biophysics, Quantitative Biosciences, or other relevant field Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Ability to develop novel light microscopy methods. * Highly motivated and able to work independently. * Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Preferred Qualifications: * A strong background and training in quantitative biology and light microscopy. * Experience and/or interest in single molecule fluorescence microscopy, particle tracking, image analysis, and nucleocytoplasmic transport. * Ability to communicate effectively both orally and through writing. * MATLAB programming ability, and a strong skillset/background in biochemical and biophysical methods and approaches. Responsibilities: * Single Molecule and Super-Resolution Fluorescence Microscopy Experiments: Designing, planning, and implementing 3D super-resolution fluorescence microscopy experiments to decipher structural and functional properties of nuclear pore complexes. * Data Analysis: Use existing algorithms and design new approaches to analyze microscopy data in order to understand its implications for understanding nucleocytoplasmic transport. Analyzed data will be reported at conferences and within research publications and may be used in future grant proposals. * Protein Modification, Purification and Dye Labeling: Mutagenesis, purification and labeling of nuclear transport substrates and nuclear transport cofactors. Ability to operate a fluorescence microscope in the dark.
