Job Title Simulation Actor Department SONHI Simulation Job Code C52595 Job category Part Time Staff Terms and Hours Temporary, part-time, variable hours. Salary Range Hourly Rate $28 Job Summary This position is part of the Simulated Health Center under the School of Nursing and Health Innovations (SONHI) and works under the direction of simulation faculty. This position participates in multiple on-campus settings, portraying patients, caregivers, family members and other key characters in support of on-campus clinical simulations and exercises. Core Duties * Provide acting talent services to the Simulated Health Center in the School of Nursing and Health Innovations (SONHI). * Under the direction of SONHI simulation faculty, portray simulated characters in a manner that supports learning objectives in various scenes, scenarios and exercises. * Receive feedback from simulation faculty and alter character portrayal as directed. * Engage in training and rehearsals as scheduled. * Adhere to school guidelines and University policies. Other duties as relevant to the duties of the position or as assigned by supervisor or designee. Education & Experience * Preferred: Bachelor's degree. * Strongly Preferred: prior experience in healthcare simulation. * Or a combination of equivalent education and/or experience. Certifications & Licenses * Preferred: None. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * Effective organizational skills. * Ability to learn and apply applicable University and other policies using problem-solving skills. * Ability to exercise flexibility when dealing with co-workers and dynamic simulation interactions. * Strong orientation towards continued learning and applying learning in the work setting. * Ability to work independently but also to constructively receive supervisory direction and work collaboratively in a team setting. * Comfortable talking and interacting with campus community members. * Ability to exercise excellent judgment. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Strong, effective interpersonal, and customer service skills. * Ability to quickly learn and use new technologies and applications in depth at level of proficiency required of duties of the position. * Competence with and commitment to diversity and inclusion; ability to be an effective partner with diverse students, faculty, and staff. * Ability to establish effective working relationships, professional rapport, and effectively accomplish work within a University setting that includes a wide array of individuals, groups, policies, and processes. * Effective ability to use and learn computers, technology, software, and applications at level of sophistication required for the duties of the position, including, without limitation, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), the internet, and computerized maintenance management systems. * All University of Portland positions require the ability to quickly learn and use new technologies, software, and applications in depth and at level of proficiency required for duties of the position. In most situations, the necessity of learning, using, and supporting new technologies, software, and/or applications does not change a job description nor make the position one that involves higher level duties. Physical Requirements * Frequently: portray persons with differing physical abilities in simulation settings. * Occasionally: sit, perform desk-based computer tasks; use fine manipulation and grasp; use a telephone; write by hand; sort and file paperwork. * Occasionally: stand and walk; twist; lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds. * As necessary: ability to attend events and activities on or off campus. * Frequently: ability to interact and communicate with members of the University and others as necessary. Working Conditions * Hours of employment: sometimes may require working flexible and/or longer hours, when necessitated by projects. * Work-related stress: Sometimes there may stress from work-related situations such as those involving challenging, important, urgent, time-sensitive or multiple matters. * Environment: generally a university simulated health center that reflects the following settings: acute care hospital, telehealth outpatient care, and a patient's home.
