GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Knowledge and understanding of ESL instruction and second language acquisition; Experience supporting bilingual/bicultural students and students with special needs. 1. Provides individualized English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to English Learners in accordance with the Massachusetts State Frameworks and WIDA standards. 2. Demonstrates effective techniques of classroom management, behavioral interventions, and communication to engage students. 3. Demonstrates cultural proficiency and use of effective and culturally relevant instructional practices. 4. Collaborates and communicates with the content teacher(s) to support English Learners. 5. Assists with the oversight and delivery of Massachusetts state test (ACCESS) and administers screening tests and student assessments to guide instruction. 6. Prepares for and assists with organization of EL class placement and transition meetings. 7. Completes necessary paperwork regarding the identification, progress monitoring, and reclassification of English Learners. 8. Understands and complies with the state policies, rules, and regulations regarding English Learners. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Perform all required duties (supervision, attendance taking, student-parent conferences, department/staff meetings, etc.). Apply a variety of teaching techniques to the delivery of instruction, demonstrate appropriate application of interdisciplinary instruction. Assist with MCAS administration as necessary, and assist with managing and providing accommodations needed for students with disabilities and ELLs. 12. Participate in professional development activities that align with school-wide educational goals: Update professional skills by attending conferences, meetings, workshops, and other professional development and related career training activities. Join professional organizations. Develop goals and complete all activities relative to professional development and the teacher evaluation system. Perform other duties as assigned.
