Responsibilities Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a residential treatment facility (RTF) that serves boys and girls, ages 11 to 18. Our treatment services are intended to help residents address psychiatric and substance use issues. We encourage youth to explore their feelings and develop positive behaviors to use at home and in their community. The 108-bed facility is secure and comfortable, so residents can wholly focus on recovery. Our new acute care facility is located next to the RTF. It serves to stabilize services to children and teens, ages 8 to 17, who suffer from a mental health crisis. Specialized recreation therapy techniques are used to meet the physical, social, emotional, cultural and rehabilitative needs of clients/patients. Position functions as a team member in all aspects of clinical decision-making and with the construction of multidisciplinary treatment planning. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Recreation or a related field or 2 years experience in the recreation or activities department of an inpatient psychiatric or substance abuse facility. Preferred 1 year experience working and/or treating adolescents. He/she must hold a Certification in Therapeutic Recreation (CTRS), be CPR certified, and hold a valid Virginia driver's license.
