Serve as an undergraduate research assistant on the project: Mental Health in Schools: Academic, cognitive, and familial correlates. This project will first attempt to review the literature on mental health, particularly anxiety, in children and adolescents in school settings. We will be reviewing literature to determine what schools are doing to identify students who may be experiencing anxiety. We will also be looking to determine what current research indicates about the impact of anxiety in childhood on academic and /or cognitive factors as well as social-emotional functioning in schools. We will also explore familial factors that may contribute to or buffer students from anxiety and potential impact on school functioning. The undergraduate research assistant will primarily be responsible for conducting literature reviews in PsychInfo, ERIC, and potentially google scholar to identify relevant articles. We will meet to review and refine searches. Once relevant articles are identified the research assistant will create brief summaries of articles and/or create a table comparing the various studies. Based on what we find, I would anticipate working with the student to put together a summary paper that could possibly be presented at a regional or national conference. * You must have Work Study funding added to your awards BEFORE applying for this position.
