Tesla is looking to hire a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to contribute to the analysis and development of mechanical joining processes for our cutting-edge battery products. In this role you will help drive technological advancement in this area as part of a small, specialized team. Battery development is at the heart of our company, and this is an exciting opportunity to work directly on the central challenges with electric vehicles - battery cost and performance. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work with a highly motivated team on extremely challenging projects. * Investigate candidate mechanical joining process strategies for new high voltage battery products * Down-select applied joining methods and technologies * Provide mechanical joining Design for Manufacturability (DFM) input to product designers * Validate and optimize processes from early prototype builds through full volume production * Drive proof-of-concept to green light new and novel methods, technologies, and suppliers * Evolve the mechanical joining knowledge base through standards and benchmarking * 3+ years of engineering or equivalent relevant experience * Strong experience with fastener tightening with a focus on product and process design * Experience developing and implementing one of more other mechanical joining processes and equipment in high-volume production (Self-Piercing Rivets, clinching, Flowdrill Screw, RivNuts, etc) * Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) * Degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials, or equivalent experience
