The C.N. Yang Institute for Theoretical Physics (YITP) at Stony Brook University anticipates filling one or more postdoctoral research appointments in theoretical physics, with anticipated appointment dates of September 1, 2025. Appointments are normally for three years. Research fields currently represented at the YITP include, but are not limited to, particle theory, cosmology, quantum field theory, string theory, condensed matter, statistical mechanics, and quantum information theory. The Institute has a tradition of collaboration with the Departments of Physics and Astronomy and of Mathematics and the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics at Stony Brook and with Brookhaven National Laboratory. Postdoctoral Associate: Required Qualifications:(as evidenced by an attached resume) Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree or foreign equivalent in theoretical physics or closely related field, with a record of independent research. Preferred Qualifications: Research experience in one or more subfields currently represented in the YITP. (particle theory, cosmology, quantum field theory, string theory, condensed matter, statistical mechanics, and quantum information theory). Brief Description of Duties: The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research in the field of the researcher's choice in theoretical physics. The Postdoc may collaborate with senior and junior members of the C.N. Yang Institute for Theoretical Physics, as well as members of other research institutes, and may travel for research purposes. The Institute has a tradition of collaboration with the Departments of Physics and Astronomy and of Mathematics and the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics at Stony Brook and with Brookhaven National Laboratory. ● Conduct research in the field of the Postdoctoral Associate's choice in particle theory, cosmology, quantum field theory, string theory, condensed matter, statistical mechanics, and quantum information theory ● Collaborate with senior members of the YITP working in the same field as well as in other educational institutes. ● Present seminars based on the Postdoctoral Associate's work during academic year. Occasional travel to present research results or collaborate on institute-sponsored research. ● Other duties as needed. Sr. Postdoctoral Associate: Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume) Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree or foreign equivalent in theoretical physics or closely related field, with a record of independent research. 3 years of independent research experience. Preferred Qualifications: Research experience in one or more subfields currently represented in the YITP. (particle theory, cosmology, quantum field theory, string theory, condensed matter, statistical mechanics, and quantum information theory). Brief Description of Duties: The Sr. Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research in the field of the researcher's choice in theoretical physics. The Senior Postdoc may collaborate with senior and junior members of the C.N. Yang Institute for Theoretical Physics, as well as members of other research institutes, and may travel for research purposes. The Institute has a tradition of collaboration with the Departments of Physics and Astronomy and of Mathematics and the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics at Stony Brook and with Brookhaven National Laboratory. ● Conduct research in the field of the Sr. Postdoctoral Associate's choice in particle theory, cosmology, quantum field theory, string theory, condensed matter, statistical mechanics, and quantum information theory. ● Collaborate with senior members of the YITP working in the same field as well as in other educational institutes. ● Mentorship of graduate students in YITP. ● Present seminars based on the Sr. Postdoctoral Associate's work during academic year. Occasional travel to present research results or collaborate on institute-sponsored research. ● Other duties as needed.
