University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences Department of Community Health Services and Rehabilitation Science - Pittsburgh, PA The Department of Community Health Services and Rehabilitation Science at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a part-time (non-tenure) Associate Professor (12-month appointment) to serve as a part-time member of the Doctor of Chiropractic faculty. This position will also serve as the Associate Director of Curriculum Management. Position Details * The Associate Director of Curriculum Management (CM) reports to and works closely with the Director to ensure curricular continuity in and amongst the Clinical Education, Basic Science, and Chiropractic Science arms of the DCP. * The Associate Director of CM reports to and works closely with the Director and other Associate Directors to ensure accreditation standards are met or exceeded. * The Associate Director of CM supervises all curricular activities within the DCP, interfacing with all DCP faculty (full-time or otherwise), clinical instructors, and/or curricular consultants. Position Duties Curriculum Creation * Lead in creating an evidence-based DCP curriculum that meets the Mission and upholds the values of the DCP. * Collaborate with other Associate Directors, all DCP faculty, and/or curricular consultants in curriculum creation and execution. * Ensures all course learning objectives are interconnected to evidence-based practice principles core to the program. * Uphold standards of course learning objectives and provide mentorship to those faculty in need of creating learning objectives for their courses. Collaborate with other Associate Directors to hire qualified faculty (residential, hybrid, full-time, or part-time) to teach in the DCP curriculum. * Assign hired faculty to provide primary instruction in chosen DCP classes. * Create a curriculum and teaching faculty prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Curricular Management * Monitor the DCP curriculum, making modifications as needed that are documented and conform to CCE standards. * Integrate key curricular threads that support student success in achieving graduation and subsequent licensure. * Collaborate with the Associate Director of Assessment and Accreditation to ensure all curricular learning objectives meet curricular mapping requirements to CCE and accreditation standards. * Lead and facilitate the creation of interprofessional evidence-based clinical care guidelines to support the DCP curriculum, faculty, clinicians, and students. * Collaborate with the Associate Director of Clinical Education to ensure clinical instructors continually support curricular aims and objectives. * Lead a DCP Curriculum Committee and other committees as needed. * Act as DCP liaison in interprofessional, curricular affairs. * Evaluate the performance of teaching faculty and appropriate staff for promotion and/or other purposes as necessary. * Collaborate with Program Director and Associate Director of Assessment and Accreditation in creating and maintaining state-of-the-art lecture and laboratory settings leveraging innovation and current technologies. Scholarship and Interprofessional Collaboration * Lead, participate in, and/or support original research either within or outside the DCP. * Support and/or collaborate with DCP faculty and staff to publish peer-reviewed publications in journals with high-impact factors. * Support and/or collaborate with DCP faculty and staff to publish peer-reviewed literature with other health professionals at the University of Pittsburgh. * Generate research ideas that best position the DCP to lead the chiropractic and other professions in research related to primary spine (and other musculoskeletal) care * Stay current with evidence that supports curricular development. Other Administration and Representation * As needed, represent the DCP on external committees such as the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE). Performance Standards * Requires minimal or no supervision and can achieve all said job requirements remotely and/or in person at the University of Pittsburgh. * Exercises discretion and independent judgment in significant matters. * Communicates (both oral and written) in a timely, professional manner. Requisite Qualifications Minimum Educational Requirements * Doctor of Chiropractic from an institution accredited to award said degree. * Master's Degree or higher in clinical research or education. Teaching Experience * A minimum of 10 years teaching full-time in an accredited Doctor of Chiropractic Program, with a focus on ALL of the following subjects: o Evidence-based Practice o Chiropractic Sciences and Manual Therapies o Diagnosis and Management of Disorders of the Spine and Extremities Minimum Academic Administrative Experience * 3-5 years of departmental Chair (programmatic administrative) experience at an accredited DCP with prior experience in chiropractic curriculum development and design Scholarship * Published in peer-reviewed journals * Recent history of and current involvement in interprofessional research collaboration and publication in peer-reviewed sources. * Advanced understanding of contemporary chiropractic principles, techniques, curricula, and instruction. Other Chiropractic Administrative Experience * NBCE Examination Development * Departmental-level knowledge of the Council on Chiropractic Education accreditation process. Clinical Experience * A minimum of 10 years of clinical practice experience Starting Date: 1 August 2024 Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position: Requires excellent analytical, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Requires minimal or no supervision. Works autonomously. Exercises discretion and independent judgment in significant matters. Communicates (both oral and written) in a timely, professional manner. Exhibits professionalism and tact at all times. Expectations: Experience-Teaching: The candidate will demonstrate successful experience and/or a strong motivation for excellence in classroom, clinical, and simulation/laboratory instruction and teaching. Experience-Service: The candidate will demonstrate successful academic collaboration and/or a strong motivation for such collaboration and building and maintaining excellence in professional development and clinical education in a research-intensive department, school, and university.
