Employment Type: Full time Shift: Description: The resident physician's primary responsibility is to undergo the training necessary to become a competent physician. In the course of this training, the resident will care for patients under the supervision of attending physicians in the inpatient and outpatient setting. The resident's performance will be reviewed on a regular basis in accordance with the evaluation policy. Adheres to MercyOne's performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of MercyOne * Meet responsibilities inherent in each rotation as defined by the rotation goals and objectives. * Participate in all academic conferences, lectures, grand rounds, etc. as scheduled by the program director * Comply with the on-call schedule established by the program director. * Develop a personal program of learning to foster continued professional growth with guidance from the teaching staff. * Participate fully in the educational and scholarly activities of the program and as required, assume responsibility for teaching and supervising other residents and students. * Abide by the GMEC policies and procedures, departmental policies and procedures, applicable MercyOne policies, and applicable medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations. This includes compliance with duty hour rules and documenting hours accurately and timely into the New Innovations Software program * Maintains a safe working environment and practices safe working habits in accordance with OSHA and Foundation policies and training. Prevents, diagnoses and manages diseases, disorders and injuries. * Performs and interprets the findings of a thorough problem-focused history and physical exam. * Performs and interprets appropriate diagnostic studies. * Formulates an appropriate diagnosis and/or differential diagnosis. * Formulates and implements an appropriate plan of medical or surgical management. * Assesses and manages the patient's general medical status. * Performs and interprets the findings of a comprehensive medical history and physical examination (including pre-operative history and physical examination). * Formulates an appropriate differential diagnosis of the patient's general medical problem(s). * Recognizes the need for (and/or order) additional diagnostic studies, when indicated. * Formulates and implements an appropriate plan of management, when indicated, including appropriate therapeutic intervention, appropriate consultations and/or referrals and appropriate general medical health promotion and education. * Practices with professionalism, compassion and concern in a legal, ethical and moral fashion. * Abides by state and federal laws, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), governing the practice of podiatric medicine and surgery. * Practices and abides by the principles of informed consent. * Understands and respects the ethical boundaries of interactions with patients, colleagues and employees. * Demonstrates professional humanistic qualities. * Demonstrates ability to formulate a methodical and comprehensive treatment plan with appreciation of healthcare costs. * Communicates effectively and functions in a multi-disciplinary setting. * Communicates in oral and written form with patients, colleagues, payors and the public. * Maintains appropriate medical records. * Manages individuals and populations in a variety of socioeconomic and healthcare settings. * Demonstrates an understanding of the psychosocial and healthcare needs for patients in all life stages: pediatric through geriatric. * Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural values, behaviors and preferences of one's patients when providing care to persons whose race, ethnicity, nation of origin, religion, gender and/or sexual orientation is/are different from one's own. * Demonstrates an understanding of public health concepts, health promotion and disease prevention. * Understands practice management in a multitude of healthcare delivery settings. * Demonstrates familiarity with utilization management and quality improvement. * Understands healthcare reimbursement. * Understands insurance issues including professional and general liability, disability and Worker's Compensation. * Understands medical-legal considerations involving healthcare delivery. * Demonstrates understanding of common business practices. * Utilizes research, scholarly activity and information technologies to enhance professional knowledge and clinical practice. * Reads, interprets and critically examines and presents medical and scientific literature. * Collects and interprets data and presents the findings in a formal study related to medicine and surgery. * Demonstrates information technology skills in learning, teaching and clinical practice. * Participates in continuing education activities. * Maintains accurate clinical and activity logs for residency program. * Documents clinical log in Residency Resource in a timely manner. * Documents activity logs in Residency Resource in a timely manner. * Based on principles of growth and development, provides care appropriate to the age related needs of the patients served on his/her assigned unit, which may include: Birth-28 days: Neonate 1-18 Months: Infant 18 Mo-3 Yrs: Toddler 3-6 Yrs: Pre-School Aged 6-12 Yrs: School-Aged 12-18 Yrs: Adolescents 18-65 Yrs: Adults 65+ Yrs: Geriatrics * Collects, analyzes, interprets and applies age-specific data. * Performs tasks/procedures, uses equipment in an age-appropriate manner. * Communicates and works with others in an age-appropriate manner. * Adheres to all safety, infection control and colleague health policies and procedures. * Attends required safety programs. * Appropriately and consistently uses the personal protective equipment required of the job. * Knows and can demonstrate departmental emergency procedures for fire, disaster and other emergency situations. * Reports and removes unsafe equipment/furniture. * Asks for assistance when needed to assure safety for all involved. * Maintains a safe working environment and practices safe working habits.
