Smith Building City Albany StateNY Zip Code12210 Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive: Four years of experience in electronics installation, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, or design of solid-state electronic equipment, intelligent transportation systems, or commercial, industrial, and/or military electronic/electrical integrated system components. Substitutions: Graduation from a high school technical electronics education program recognized by the New York State Education Department as meeting the standards for technical education may substitute for one year of the required experience. An Associate's degree or 60 semester credits hours of college-level study in electronics, engineering, technology, chemistry, physics or a related field, or successful completion of a two-year technical professional certification program in the electronics field, may substitute for two years of the required experience. A Bachelor's degree in electronics, engineering, technology, chemistry, physics, or a related field may substitute for four years of the required experience. Duties Description Under the direction of a Highway Safety Equipment Technician 2 or Highway Safety Equipment Technical Supervisor within the Highway Safety Technology Unit of the Office of Public Safety, the Highway Safety Equipment Technician 1 is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and certification of evidential breath test devices and speed enforcement instruments. Specific duties include but are not limited to: * Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions, perform repair/modification work, and maintain and certify all types of evidential and screening breath test devices and their associated accessories and all types of speed enforcement devices such as radar and LIDAR units and their associated accessories. * Generate and verify court-ready certification documents to identify all maintenance, repair, and modification work performed on electronic instrumentation. * Source and obtain inventory replacement parts required to repair instrumentation. * Research product specifications, perform all necessary repairs/modifications, and conduct final inspections within all required standards and policies. * Maintain hard copies and computerized databases to document all services performed on instrumentation. * Provide expert courtroom testimony on the use and maintenance of all instruments the Highway Safety Technology Unit services. * Approximately 5% statewide travel is required.
