Overview Join AIR as a Research Intern with our Youth, Family, and Community Development program to foster equitable pathways for young people, families, and communities to thrive. The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is seeking Research Interns to assist with a multi-year project. The four-year study is a partnership between AIR and Oklahoma's Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA) and is funded by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). The study will examine the implementation and outcomes of Oklahoma's legislative and administrative juvenile justice policy changes, especially the implementation of community-based alternatives to youth incarceration. Data collection activities will include a document review, the capture of online information related to juvenile justice programming in the State of Oklahoma, cleaning and processing of data received from OJA, and interviews with youth-serving agencies, youth, and their caregivers throughout Oklahoma. Findings from the data collection processes will be shared in convenings with key stakeholders, at local, regional, and national meetings, and through the development of publications and presentations. The findings of the study will benefit youth-serving agencies and juvenile justice system stakeholders in Oklahoma and throughout the United States. Candidates hired for the position must reside in Oklahoma and have the ability to travel to communities across Oklahoma for data collection purposes. Responsibilities The responsibilities for the position include: * Participate in the collection, analysis, and review of research data using online resources and electronic documents * Travel within Oklahoma to support the conducting of interviews with youth and their families as identified * Conduct data entry using spreadsheets and databases * Support coordination and facilitation of in-person and virtual meetings * Contribute to writing of project processes and findings to share with a diverse pool of stakeholders * Participate with study team in dissemination of study findings with stakeholders within Oklahoma and beyond Qualifications Education, Knowledge, and Experience: * Must be a current student pursuing a bachelor's degree in such fields as economics, psychology, sociology, statistics, computer science, public policy, public health, or other social science related fields * Interest in and/or knowledge of the juvenile justice system * Interest in and/or knowledge of data collection activities geared at individuals in communities * Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite or the equivalent (word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software) Skills: * Excellent interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication with individuals at all levels and from diverse backgrounds * Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy when writing * Comfortable working in a virtual work environment to participate in team meetings * Comfortable working independently to carry out project tasks with guidance from a supervisor * Strong time management skills * Ability to take directions and guidance from project staff and leadership Disclosures: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position. Depending on project work, qualified candidates may need to meet certain residency requirements. This part-time position offers $22.00 per hour. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the organization and external equity with competitive markets.
