Job Summary Provides transcription support to transcription teams and customers. Reviews documents using manual concurrent review and performs other quality review functionalities, modifies and updates transcribed documents to reflect accurate and timely transcribed dictations. Interprets and transcribes dictation by physicians and other healthcare professionals in a professional, accurate, and timely manner. Utilizes a digital dictation system, transcription system, and related software. Works error logs or work queues to identify and resolve issues. Addresses customer inquiries received via phone or email to resolution or satisfaction. When appropriate, forwards issues or concerns to management team. Orients and trains new employees and serves as a mentor to department employees. Applies professional knowledge and uses critical thinking skills to transcribe dictation and/or edits speech recognized text. Uses medical transcription skills to distinguish dialects, medical terms, operative and pharmaceutical terms. Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, surgery, diagnostic tests, pharmacology and the various medical specialties in both the hospital and ambulatory settings. Knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices. Requires knowledge of the purpose and content of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); protects private information. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including English usage, grammar, punctuation, proofreading and style. Excellent listening skills with an ability to understand diverse accents, dialects and varying dictation styles. Must be able to utilize all office equipment and software associated with the position. Ability to work under pressure within stringent time constraints. Flexibility and a willingness to implement changes and integrate automation into daily work processes. Qualifications Post-secondary education in a Medical Transcription/Medical Secretary program or equivalent in work experience required. Three years' medical transcription experience working with multiple specialties preferred. Previous experience working with electronic medical record or digital dictation and transcription system software is required. Registered or Certified Healthcare Documentation Specialist preferred.
