Job Details Level: Experienced Job Location: Sweet Briar College - Sweet Briar, VA Position Type: Part Time Salary Range: Undisclosed Travel Percentage: Up to 25% Assistant Track and Field Coach Sweet Briar is a liberal arts college for women with a long history of forging female leaders. After a near closure in 2015, the College was saved by its alumnae and underwent dramatic transformation. Today Sweet Briar College is repeatedly named by the US News and World Report as one of the most innovative liberal arts colleges in the nation. Sweet Briar College is financially stable and actively growing again, attracting students who are drawn to it for its excellent liberal arts program, coupled with distinctive programs in women leadership, engineering, sustainability, arts and its legendary equestrian program. Located in the foothills of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains approximately 12 miles north of Lynchburg and 54 miles south of Charlottesville. Its campus is one of the nation's most spectacular, replete with nature sanctuaries, lakes, forests, trails, and most recently, vineyards, apiary and greenhouses. The College boasts a modern core curriculum focused on women's leadership in the 21st century and undergraduate programs in the arts, sciences and humanities, as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching. It is one of only two women's colleges in the United States with an ABET-accredited engineering degree. The women's leadership core curriculum is innovative and energizing. Job Title: Assistant Track and Field Coach Classification: Non-exempt Reports to: Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach Job Summary/Objective: Sweet Briar College seeks an assistant coach to support the training, recruiting, and performance of its new track & field program. The Asst. Track and Field Coach is responsible for promoting Sweet Briar College Athletics through the academic, on-field and off-field development of the track and field program. Position Type/Expected Work Hours: starting August 1, 2024: part-time, hours will vary - flexibility for evening and weekend hours required. Travel and overnight trips will be required. attendance at sprints & jumps practices, and recruiting for sprints and jumps athletes. Essential Responsibilities as Assistant Coach: Coaching 60%: * Practice planning with head coach: Asst. Coach will be working primarily with sprints and jumps athletes. * On field coaching for traditional and non-traditional seasons * Meet day duties including driving van to away competitions * Team building and character development * Conflict management Recruiting 40%: * Email, phone calls, video conferencing, texting * Off-site recruiting when possible * Social Media Other duties as assigned by supervisor or head coach Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience * Ability to drive a 12-passenger van Preferred Qualifications: * 4-years of collegiate T/F experience, preferably sprints or jumps * Coaching education * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - written and verbal * Program implementation and collaboration with a diverse population * Ability to maintain strict levels of confidentiality * Must adhere to NCAA and ODAC rules and regulations Work Environment: The department of physical education, athletics, and recreation is a team-oriented, collaborative, competitive, inclusive, and results driven environment for the benefit of each team member representing the college in athletics. This job involves indoor and significant outdoor activities. Physical Demands: Ability to work a varied daily schedule, including nights and weekends, as practice and game schedules allow, as well as recruiting events, and campus events as needed. Ability to physically perform most of the sport-skills and strength/conditioning training, with consistently lifting up to 30#. Field maintenance and the movement of goals and other equipment may be necessary. Ability to drive a 15-passenger van. Travel: Travel as needed for competition and recruiting.
