Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company's portfolio. Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018. Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross' Nevada operations. The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area. Job Description Lead the Technical Services Department to train, develop, and retain the best technical team to develop, design and execute an optimized mine plan for continued growth and improvement of the operation. Key Responsibilities 1. Align technical services department and individual goals with site vision and strategic planning initiatives. 2. Guide the technical services team to develop updated mine designs, plans, and models for creation of the site business plans as well as quarterly forecasts. 3. Perform personnel administrative functions, approve employment of hourly and salary personnel, approve salary actions for personnel, participate in the corrective action process, and develop skills of team members to attain maximum staff flexibility and promotion to management. 4. Lead the reserve and resource declaration process, from geologic modeling through economic evaluation and determination. 5. Lead the business planning process, including operational costs as well as potential capital needs, to create a budget for the site. 6. Advise and cooperate with all other departments affected by changes in mine operations and assist in overall mine management through interaction with other departments. 7. Establish and implement safety standards with assistance from the safety department. Visit working areas to ascertain that operation policies and directives are put into practice consistent with safe operating procedures. 8. Provide mentorship, guidance and development opportunities to less experienced technical services professionals. 9. The Technical Services team encompasses geology, mine engineering, survey, and Geotech. Must be knowledgeable in the key pieces of each of those disciplines as well as provide input and guidance for the teams' success. 10. Site presence is required primarily with opportunities for remote work. 11. Work safely and promote Zero Harm. 12. Maintain accurate records and files. 13. Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance. 14. Responsible for conducting performance evaluations, recommending promotions and carrying out corrective actions as needed. 15. Review documentation of accidents, injuries and equipment damage and recommend prevention strategies as necessary. 16. Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct. 17. Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications 1. BA or BS degree in Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering, or other related technical field. 2. Seven to ten years' experience in mine technical services, experience as a General Mine Foreman or Chief Engineer preferred. 3. Underground technical services experience preferred. 4. Knowledge of engineering techniques as they apply to ore body evaluation and mine operations, for surface and underground. 5. Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills. 6. General knowledge of mining and the integration of the mining, milling, and maintenance functions. 7. Demonstrated management, economics and strong supervisory skills. 8. Strong business acumen with experience or education a plus. 9. Experience in managing personnel in varying and unrelated fields. 10. Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team. 11. Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. 12. Requires valid driver's license.
