The role you'll contribute: The Financial Counselor performs insurance verification, pre-certification, in-house follow-up and discharge, pre-registration, registration and collecting upfront cash for patients into Shawnee Mission Medical Center in a pleasant and accurate manner. The financial counselor performs his/her duties by assisting and screening patient with the qualifications of the hospital's financial assistance program. The Financial Counselor performs follow-up on outstanding balances and self-pay accounts. It also takes and processes payments from patients. The value you'll bring to the team: * Interacts and communicates with co-workers, physicians, hospital employees, patients and visitors in a considerate , positive manner. * Assists self-pay patients in completing the patient financial questionnaire. * Ensures that the patient is well informed about their financial responsibility and in a professional manner, helps them fulfill their financial obligation to the hospital through collection or establishing a payment plan. * Assesses the need for pre-certification and authorization while following established guidelines for each patient in order to ensure payment from payors.
