POSITION SUMMARY: Fellowship position to train with health services and ACO mentors to become a researcher in healthcare administration. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary objective of the fellowship is to develop research competency, so that trainees can become successful independently supported scientists. The specific responsibilities are to: * Gain experience and knowledge in research design; * Master statistical methods used in research and the interpretation of the medical literature; Understand the importance of appropriate statistical consultation; * Become familiar with the problems and challenges of performing research; * Conduct, analyze, present and publish the results of independent research projects in areas reflecting the objectives of Healthy People 2010; * Complete at least one research project, culminating in a presentation and publication; * Prepare a grant application prior to completion of the training program; and * Develop skills in other areas that contribute to academic success, such as teaching and communication. * The development of research competency is accomplished through intensive mentoring and by course work at Boston University School of Public Health, Research seminars, participation in the CTSI training program, completion of both directed and independently developed research projects, participation in the Learning To Teach and Communicate Seminar, and attendance of regional and national research/scientific meetings are required. JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION: * Requires Doctoral degree (PhD). KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: * Extensive knowledge of basic sciences, including pure or applied physics and mathematics. * Requires proficiency with standard Microsoft programs and statistical analysis tools. * Requires thorough knowledge of scientific principles, the ability to solve technical problems, and strong analytical skills commensurate with the collaborative execution of research projects. * Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with personnel from various specialties. * Must demonstrate motivation to contribute strongly to the research effort as well as to develop personal skills relevant to independent work in a clinical setting. This position is funded by Institutional National Research Service Award (NSRA). The training program is 2 - 3 years in length. There may be opportunity beyond this grant funding for position integration into ongoing operations.
