Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge * General knowledge of office and clerical skills. * Familiarity of and/or a willingness to learn information related to garbage, recycling, and rubbish collection for the entire City of Oxford. Willingness to learn about the City right-of-way and cemetery maintenance. Skills and Abilities * A strong work ethic, initiative, dependability, professionalism and desire to work with a broad spectrum of tasks in a fast-paced work environment are vital traits. * Must have experience providing excellent customer service when working with the public. * Excellent writing skills necessary (reports, emails, and letters) - including proper grammar, spelling and use of English in speaking and writing. * General math skills, ability to read maps and ability to think critically. * Organized and able to maintain a neat a professional work space, including digital spaces. * Skilled with standard office computer software (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint). Special Requirements * Ability to work well in a team environment and build good working relationships with City staff. * Ability to make decisions within specified time limits and meet specified required deadlines. * Ability to communicate effectively and calmly with residents and businesses; maintaining composure in heated situations. * Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and work independently. * Willingness to follow department and City policies and procedures. Tools and Equipment Used * General office equipment - computer, copier, telephones, etc. Physical Demands * The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Physical work involved with this position includes, but is not limited to, walking, and sitting for extended periods of time. * The employee must occasionally lift or move items up to a weight of 50-60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment Most work is in an office setting. There is no exposure to chemicals and/or hazardous materials on a daily basis. The emotional stress level associated with this position can be high from time to time. 70% of the work for this position is indoors, and 30% is outdoors. Attendance at evening meetings for some Boards and Commissions may be requested on occasion. Purpose of Position Serves to support the Director of Environmental Services for the City of Oxford. Aids Director and others within the Department with responsibilities for Environmental Services department. Supervision Received The immediate supervisor for this position is the Director and Assistant Director of Environmental Services for the City of Oxford. Supervision Exercised Supervises drivers, laborers, and support staff. Education and Experience A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred but extensive experience in a related field may be considered in lieu of. Five (5) years relevant experience required. Essential Functions * Assist superintendent of Environmental services with day-to-day operations. * Answer phones to help residents/customers with problems or concerns. * Charge sanitation accounts for dumpsters, roll offs, or residential garbage service. * In charge of the entire Adopt-A-Street program - setting up new groups and overseeing current groups. * Executive Director of the Keep Oxford/Lafayette County Beautiful, Keep America Beautiful affiliate. * Deliver cans to new residential builds within the city. * Bill for Rubbish and Transfer Station charges. * Pay certain bills for the department. * Pull applications, call perspective employees, and gather all necessary paperwork for new employees. * Order various items for the department from various vendors. * Set up newspaper advertisement for bidding process. * Completing various paperwork/purchase orders for different reasons in the department. Occasional Functions * Organize semi-annual community shred events for the Oxford/Lafayette County community. * Organize necessary food and equipment needs for Double Decker Festival for Environmental Services department. Marginal Functions * Perform other duties as assigned.
