Job Title: Surgical Technologist Student Intern Cost Center: 301191311 ECHos-Surgical Svcs Scheduled Weekly Hours: 4 Employee Type: Casual Work Shift: Casual; variable shifts (United States of America) Job Description: JOB SUMMARY The Surgical Technologist Intern works under the direct supervision of a preceptoring Surgical Technologist. The Surgical Technologists Intern will collaborate with the preceptoring Surgical Technologist to provide a safe, efficient environment for the surgical patient and staff by working in accordance with Marshfield Medical Center standards of practice and by adhering to Marshfield Medical Center policies/procedures, universal precautions, and sterile technique. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1. Assists the Surgical Technologist with patient care prior to and after surgical procedures to ensure patients' needs are met 2. Assists preceptoring surgical technologists with sterile techniques and infection control practices to prepare field/instruments, skin preparation and draping prior to surgery. 3. Assists provider with specialty-specific invasive and non-invasive procedures to ensure procedure is completed. 4. Assists the preceptoring Surgical Technologists with maintaining inventory and orders necessary supplies to ensure adequate supplies are available as needed. 5. Develops clinical/surgical knowledge and continues professional growth to enhance skills through the clinical program. 6. Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position. 7. Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions. ADDITIONAL DUTIES 1. Other duties as assigned. JOB QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation. Minimum Required: Currently enrolled in a Surgical Technologist program with completion of one semester of surgical technologist curriculum. Preferred/Optional: None EXPERIENCE Minimum Required: None Preferred/Optional: None CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position. Minimum Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire. Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire. Student must have attended one clinical rotation.
