The Position The Performing Arts Teaching Artist will work closely with the Arts Division staff to create and deliver meaningful and engaging curriculum (in relation to the applicant's expertise). Responsibilities of this position require an adjusted work schedule, including working weekend hours. This is a part-time, temporary, contract position. Examples of Important & Essential Duties (included but not limited to) * Create curriculum (class series, workshops, lesson plans, youth camps) for all ability levels in a variety of mediums within your expertise (i.e. drama, dance, music etc.). * Maintain clear and professionally written documentation: lesson plans, achieved class objectives and reviewing documents. * Provide creative arts instruction of created curriculum for all ages and abilities in a variety of mediums within your expertise (i.e. drama, dance, music etc.) * Contribute to planning meetings. * Review and document participants experiences in classes. * Ensure your classroom is safely set up with appropriate materials needed for instruction. * Effectively implement policies and strategies set in place by the city and the center. * Attend weekly staff meetings and other. * Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Essential Job Functions (position requirements at entry): * Must be able to manage classroom supplies, equipment, tools and classroom, and storage spaces. * Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force to frequently or constantly lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects. * Requires the ability to compare and / or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people, or things. * Requires the ability to speak and/ or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments, and /or directions from superiors. * Requires the ability to ready a variety of correspondence, simple reports, handbooks, forms, instructional materials, etc. using prescribed format. * Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions: to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in narrative or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. * Requires the ability to conceptualize and create art form(s) and encourage creative flow while applying artistic principles. * Requires the ability to report and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with compassion and respect. * Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
