Introduction The Maryland State\nRetirement Agency is the administrator of the Maryland State Retirement and\nPension System (the "System").� The System is a multi-employer, public\nemployees' benefit retirement system composed of twelve (12) separate\nretirement and pension systems with additional plan components. These groups\ninclude state government employees, teachers, law enforcement personnel,\nlegislators, judges and local government employees and fire fighters whose\nemployers have elected to participate in the system. \nThe Investment Division\nof the Maryland State Retirement Agency seeks two\nbright, highly motivated individuals to join our Investment Associate\nInternship Program.� Each Intern will\nhave a hands-on opportunity to apply what has been learned in the classroom to\na real world, large-scale investment operation. The interns will be assigned\nspecial projects, learn how to utilize financial software, and work with\nexperts who are responsible for investing the plan assets of the Maryland State\nRetirement and Pension System, totaling approximately $68 Billion as of June\n30, 2024.\nThe Interns, like our\nInvestment Team, must maintain a positive team management approach and be both\nresults driven and creative problem solvers who work together to assist the\nteam in managing our global multi-asset portfolio. \nThe Investment Division\nis committed to providing a professional work experience that will give the Investment\nAssociate Interns a complete understanding of the institutional investment\nprocess and to provide a diverse and inclusive workplace that embraces both\nanalytical and innovative thinkers.� Interns\nwill have the opportunity to work on special projects in one or more areas\nincluding Public Equity, Fixed Income, Real Estate, Private Equity, Absolute\nReturn, Compliance, and/or Accounting and Operations.\n GRADE HRLY 0005\n LOCATION OF POSITION Maryland\nState Retirement Agency\n120\nEast Baltimore Street\nBaltimore, MD� 21202\n Main Purpose of Job Internship Program.\nEach Intern will have a\nhands-on opportunity to apply what has been learned in the classroom to a real\nworld, large- scale investment operation. Selected interns will be assigned\nspecial projects, learn how to utilize financial software, and work with\nexperts who are responsible for investing the plan assets of the Maryland State\nRetirement and Pension System, totaling approximately $68 billion as of June\n30, 2024. This is an opportunity for students going into their junior, senior,\nor graduate studies, or a recent graduate (December 2024 or May 2025) at the\nstart of the internship.\n POSITION DUTIES As a Summer Intern you will:\n\n\n\n\n\n Have the\n opportunity to work on special projects in one or more areas of the Investment Division;\n\n\n Conduct\n research projects that could directly be implemented to make investment decisions;\n\n\n Present\n research findings to senior management;\n\n\n Have the\n opportunity to learn about macroeconomic and political events through industry\n seminars and conferences and how those events tie into the investment process;\n\n\n Learn about and\n assist with the investment manager due-diligence process;\n\n\n Acquire\n foundational skills over a wide range of investment disciplines and asset\n classes;\n\n\n Have an\n opportunity to learn about and work with the investment compliance team;\n\n\n Have an\n opportunity to learn about and work with investment accounting team;\n\n\n Have an\n opportunity to learn about and work with cash, trades and settlement team; and\n\n\n Perform other\n department related projects and duties as assigned\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Current sophomores, juniors, or seniors\nmatriculating to junior, senior, or graduate status in a four-year college or\nuniversity at the start of the internship with a 3.0 or higher GPA.� All\nmajors will be considered.� \nExperience:\nNone\n�\nTRANSCRIPTS\nARE REQUIRED FOR THIS RECRUITMENT\n DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS While there are no minimum requirements for STEM or\nfinance-related subjects, successful candidates typically have completed some\nSTEM courses. Preference will be given to applicants�who possess all\nor some of the following preferred qualification(s).�Include clear and\nspecific information on your application regarding�your qualifications to\nreceive credit. \n�� �Excellent\ncommunication and interpersonal skills.\n���\nIntellectual\ncuriosity and strong problem-solving skills.\n���\nExcellent\nanalytical skills and attention to detail.\n���\nProficient\nin Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.\n���\nAbility\nto work independently with moderate direction and as part of a team.\n���\nAbility\nto establish and maintain cooperative working and professional relationships.\n���\nAbility\nto quickly adapt to changes in priorities, assignments, and timelines.\n�� �Possession\nof high integrity and ethical values.\n�� �Have\nties to Maryland (attendance of the Maryland based university and/or Maryland\nresidence).\nDates\nof the Internship\nThe\nstart of the internship is TBD (estimated late May/early June). This internship\nwill run about 10 to 12 weeks, subject to the availability of selected\ncandidates. This internship will follow a hybrid model: a combination of\nin-person and virtual presence will be required.\n SELECTION PROCESS Please make sure that you provide sufficient information on your application to show that you meet the qualifications for this recruitment. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\nPTO Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\n\n\n FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS Online applications are highly recommended.
