PRN position POSITION SUMMARY Personnel in this position function under the supervision of the Director of Nursing. He or she assists the clinical team in patient care, including psycho-educational group presentations, monitoring of patients, and admission of patients to their respective unit. QUALIFICATIONS a. High School Diploma accepted, but Bachelors Degree preferred. b. Good understanding of addictive process and recovery skills c. Minimum of one year experience in the addiction field. d. Individuals in recovery from substance abuse must have a minimum of two years of continuous chemical abstinence and must be active in support groups PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS * Perform admissions and orientation of the patient to the unit. Assists with patient discharges. * Takes patient vital signs and documents according to facility policy. * Observes patient behaviors and documents in accordance with facility policy. * Conduct patient check of belongings upon admission. * Supervise urine collection of patients. * Conduct crisis intervention with the supervision of Director of Nursing/ADON or Charge Nurse. * Escort patients to appointments as indicated by supervisor. Accompanies patients on outings and to nightly meetings and may require driving facility vehicles. * Conduct educational lectures for patients and families, at admission, during facility stay and after discharge, as indicated. * Documents in chart any contact with patients in accordance with department and facility procedure using a computer keyboard. * Serves as a liaison between clinical staff and patients, keeping staff informed of high-risk issues or potential patient problems. * Regularly communicates with other team members and interface in a positive constructive and helpful manner to promote cohesiveness, reduce conflict and provide for resolution. * Monitors and identifies potential problems and discusses them in the daily multidisciplinary treatment meeting. * Participates in meetings and treatment teams as required. * Assists with Crisis Intervention as directed by Director of Nursing or Charge Nurse. Able to understand and react effectively to the unique needs of the patients. * Monitors mealtimes and bathroom breaks (ED Unit only) * Follow through with special assignments and responsibilities as requested by Director of Nursing/Program Director. * Drive patients to outings and appointments as necessary using facility vehicles. * Other duties as assigned. Treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; accepts responsibility for own actions. Is able to function effectively as a member of the interdisciplinary team. * Quantity - Complete work in a timely manner, works quickly. * Adaptability - Manages competing demands. * Attendance/Punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time. * Dependability - Follows instructions, responds to management direction; takes responsibility for own actions; keeps commitments. WORKING CONDITIONS Works on the Clinical Unit. On occasion may travel outside the facility. The position involves direct and indirect patient contact. Must be able to: 1. Tolerate gradient levels of standing, walking, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs. 2. Tolerate stressful situations and various conditions that may be unpleasant to sense of sight, touch and smell. 3. Adjust to increased workload as needed. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Accept responsibility for professional growth and development of self or lack thereof. 2. Adhere to facility, departmental, corporate, personnel and standard policies and procedures. 3. Attend/complete all mandatory facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled. 4. Adhere to facility standards concerning conduct, dress, attendance, and punctuality. 5. Support facility-wide performance improvement goals and objectives. 6. Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patients. ATTENDANCE/PUNCTUALITY EXPECTATIONS 1. Reliable in punctuality and attendance, adhering to facility and departmental policies. 2. Demonstrates appropriate use of benefit time without such things as: a. Recurring absences in conjunction with days off. b. Frequent occurrences of single days off. 3. Complies with company and departmental policies with respect to attendance, which includes providing required documentation and notification of at least two hours prior to starting time or established by departmental policies. 4. Adheres to time allotted for breaks and meals and returns to work at designated times. Follows meal break policy, practices, and requirements. 5. Does not experience absences which adversely affect the ability of the department to satisfactorily perform essential job functions.
