Student Desk Managers train and mentor their staff on how to provide outstanding customer service and work to offer residents a wide array of community resources. Specifically, the Student Desk Manager is expected to role model leadership, integrity, and must possess a passion for working with undergraduate students in a residence hall setting. to Student Desk Managers work to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that helps to enhance student and community development. Student Desk Managers train and mentor their staff on how to provide outstanding customer service and work to offer residents a wide array of community resources. Specifically, the Student Desk Manager is expected to role model leadership, integrity, and must possess a passion for working with undergraduate students in a residence hall setting. Specific Responsibilities Support building desk operations across assigned area (2-3 Residence Halls/Apartments Buildings), completing audits for keys, packages, processing key changes, resident follow up, supporting Desk Attendant Staff, and working with building supervisors. Work Schedule Scheduled 15 hours between Mon-Fri 8am-430pm, with a limited hours over weekends (to complete payroll bi-weekly) Desired Start Date 08/05/2024 Open Date 07/24/2024 Close Date 07/31/2024 Required Relevant Education & Experience High School diploma or GED Required Field(s) of Study Must be enrolled in a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours per semester (undergraduate students) or six credit hours (graduate students) Preferred Relevant Education and Experience Must have at least 2 semesters of Indiana State University Residential Life Desk Attendant Experiences. Must attend Desk Manager and Desk Attendant training to maintain position. Must have and maintain 2.5 cumulative GPA. Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities. No ISU employee (whether paid or a volunteer) shall knowingly influence others to furnish the NCAA or an ISU investigator/compliance officer false or misleading information concerning an individual's involvement in or knowledge of matters relevant to a possible violation of an NCAA regulation. Failure to abide by this term of employment shall constitute unethical conduct as defined by the NCAA and may result in immediate suspension and/or termination of the employment relationship with ISU. Job Duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Providing excellent customer service; perform basic administrative work 2. Meet with the Assistant Hall Director of the residence hall at scheduled days and times. These will be established in collaboration with the Assistant Hall Director. 3. Collaborate with the Area Coordinator and Assistant Hall Director of the Residence Hall 4. Attend student staff meetings at the request of the Assistant Hall Directors. 5. Monitor and restock all desk materials as needed to ensure successful desk operations. Communicate with the Assistant Hall Director when needed regarding these materials. 6. Monitor the checkout log to ensure that equipment is properly logged out and returned. 7. Monitor keys behind the desk that include classroom keys, duty key rings, desk key rings etc. 8. Work with the Complex Secretary to manage the loan key process 9. Document situations where Desk assistants fail to follow policy, and report these issues to AHD's and AC's within the Residence Hall. 10. Assist in the processing of payroll; provide administrative support to the professional Residential Life staff. 11. Assist in the Desk Assistant recruitment, interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluation process. 12. Coordinate the Desk Assistant shift schedule to ensure 24-hour per day coverage. 13. Ensure that all Desk Assistants are properly trained and able to provide for a high level of security at the front desk. 14. Ensure that all Desk Assistants follow and abide by established rules and expectations to successfully operate the desk. 15. Facilitate regular Desk Assistant training and staff meetings. 16. Responsible for having a total of 15 scheduled work hours a. There may be times when you have to cover a missed shift or be called to help find a cover, if you cover a missed shift you will be paid for that shift. If you are called because a staff member doesn't report to work. 17. The Desk Manager position is an academic year appointment and you must be willing to work from the middle of August through the beginning of May of each academic year.
