Job Overview Performs advanced and broad-level repair, maintenance, and customer service for large repair and maintenance operation or operations supporting Hillsborough County Fleet Management Department. Incumbents in this classification perform the duties of the operation or operations, as well as lead worker duties of lower-level staff. Duties and Responsibilities Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below: * Performs complex and major repairs, preventative maintenance and repair diagnostics to county vehicles and equipment to ensure they function properly and safely. * Performs complex and non-standard retrofits of additional accessories or equipment, in accordance with customer specifications. * Monitors prioritized projects, activities, and assignments to ensure completion of deadlines. * Creates, updates, and maintains reports and databases, with various information such as, repair, maintenance, equipment, parts, supply orders, and customer service history. * Assigns and tracks work of lower-level staff; elevates issues regarding reassignments or remedial action to supervisor, as needed. * Assists lower-level staff with troubleshooting and diagnosis of difficult or non-standard repairs. * Reviews vehicle and equipment, repair and maintenance work completed by lower-level staff for accuracy timeliness, quality, and safety. * Prepares the scheduling workload for supervisor approval to ensure minimal downtime of customer's vehicles and equipment. * Acts as the subject matter expert facilitating on the job training sessions for lower-level staff; elevates issues regarding remedial action to supervisor, as needed. * Attends meetings, training sessions, educational courses; reviews videos, online resources, and paper manuals and materials to maintain current repair and maintenance methods and practices. * Assists in customer, vendor and contractor requests for assistance or resolution based on the direction of a supervisor. * Serves as the operation or operations liaison between supervisor and repair and maintenance staff. * As directed, serves as acting supervisor during supervisor absences. * Performs other related duties, as required. Job Specifications * Knowledge of vehicle and equipment repairs, preventative maintenance, and diagnostics. * Knowledge of safety guidelines and procedures. * Knowledge of proper testing procedures and methods to determine accuracy of repairs. * Skill in retro fitting accessories and equipment to vehicles and equipment. * Ability to monitor the work of an operation or operations and lead the work of lower-level staff. * Ability to prioritize and coordinate workloads, staffing, and customer needs. * Ability to utilize computers, databases and related software. * Ability to provide guidance, training, and direction to lower-level staff. * Ability to represent the county with professionalism, tact, and courtesy. * Ability to resolve or elevate requests for assistance. Physical Requirements * Will be required to climb, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch for frequent and extended periods of times. * Ability to lift and carry 75-lbs. * Ability to work in adverse or extreme weather conditions. location This position is located at Fleet Central- 410 S 78th St, Tampa 33619 Work Category * Heavy Work- Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects Minimum Qualifications Required * Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; AND * Successful completion of an approved vocational school or technical training program; Eight (8) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of automobiles, truck, or equipment; OR * An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted above; AND * Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License; AND * MUST possess at least one of the following Master ASE Certifications: *
  • Master ASE Certification in Automobile/Light Truck; OR * Master ASE Certification in Medium/Heavy Truck; OR * Master ASE Certification in Medium/Heavy Vehicle and ASE H8 (Preventive Maintenance Transit Bus) or T8 (Preventative Maintenance Medium/Heavy Truck; AND * Must possess EPA approved Section 609 Certification. Additional Requirements for Some Positions * Possession of a valid Class "B" Commercial Driver's License with endorsement(s) may be required within the probationary period. * Certification in Welding Fabrication may be required. Emergency Management Responsibilities In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee's department, the County's Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency/disaster.
