STARTING DATE: 2024 COMPENSATION: $16/hour SUMMARY OF POSITION/ RESPONSIBILITIES: Tutors are responsible for providing students with individualized assistance to help them learn new concepts and complete assignments. Tutors should be able to explain the subject matter in ways that incorporate visual, auditory, and hands-on methods. Position Description & Details * Work with students to help them understand key concepts learned in the classroom. * Suggest skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills, and approaches to answering test questions. * Demonstrate academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments. * Help students build their confidence by providing positive and constructive feedback. * Help students develop materials such as study guides to help them prepare for class and exams. * Help students prepare practice tests to track progress, identify areas of improvement and help set goals for exam preparation. Required Competencies * Current BSC student who has completed at least one semester of BSC courses * Grade of A or B in the course wanting to tutor * Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher * Must have a recommendation by a faculty member who teaches the course wishing to tutor for, or received an email requesting you to consider tutoring. Please attach a word document to your application materials to answer the following: * A description of yourself as a student. * Examples of 3 different types of information regarding study skills that you might provide a student who is struggling to study for the subject area you tutor. * What strengths will you bring to the Student Success Center tutorial staff? * Your approach to achieving academic success in the subject area you'd tutor * Classification: Freshman, Sophomore, Other * Anticipate Date of Graduation (semester/year) and cumulative GPA. * Course(s) you are interested in tutoring.
