McNeil Island Fire Department Lieutenant (Job Class: Assistant Fire Chief - Coalition)  The Department of Social and Health Services is seeking to hire a Fire Department Lieutenant to provide fire and emergency services at the Special Commitment Center (SCC) on McNeil Island.   The work schedule is a modified Detroit, 8 shifts in a 27-day work cycle. Evening and Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.   Special Commitment Center staff ride a passenger boat between Steilacoom and McNeil Island. The boat/ferry trip is approximately 20 minutes each way. SCC employees receive an additional $10 per day premium pay in addition to the advertised salary and a free Orca card for transportation use.   Certified SCC Assistant Fire Chiefs are compensated an additional $10.00 per hour, over and above regular salary and benefits, for every hour engaged in giving instruction (hazardous materials and Motorboat Operator Certification Course) to or in receiving re-certification training. Some of what you'll do * Protect life and property by directly engaging in: * Structural and wildland firefighting * Emergency medical care * Marine operations * Hazardous materials response and mitigation * High-angle and confined space rescue * Fire equipment and apparatus maintenance and facilities fire prevention * Operate radio and other communication equipment * Prepare a variety of reports and records * Wash, clean, polish, and test equipment before and after use * Participate in drills, attend classes, and assist in the training of shift personnel * Perform general station and grounds maintenance and minor repairs Who should apply? Those with a current Washington State Emergency Medical Technician Certification. And Four years of experience as a structural firefighter or above at a fire department involved in fire suppression activities. Or One year of experience as a lieutenant or above at a fire department involved in fire suppression activities which includes experience as a training officer.     Or A two-year degree in Fire Science.
