Position Type: Mentor Teacher/Science Teacher-Mentor Date Posted: 9/6/2024 Location: Perth Amboy, NJ Date Available: immediately Closing Date: 09/15/2024   Additional Information: Show/Hide TITLE: Mentor Teacher REPORTS TO: School Principal JOB GOAL: A mentor demonstrates flexibility in the three mentoring stances: consult, collaborate and coach. The mentor adapts the level support and guidance to the needs of the novice teacher. The mentor engages the candidate in reflective conversations to support the candidate in analyzing data and evidence about his/her teaching practice for the purpose of continued growth and development. Mentor Requirements: * Holds an instructional certificate and, when possible, is certified in the subject area in which the novice provisional teacher is working; * Has at least three years of experience and has taught full-time for a least two years within the last five year; * Does not service as the mentee's director supervisor nor conduct evaluations of teachers; * Demonstrates a record of success in the classroom * All mentor teacher applicants shall have received summative rating of effective or highly effective on the most recent summative evaluation pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:10 * Understands the social and workplace norms of the school district and the community it serves * Understands the resources and opportunities available in the school district and it able to act as a referral source to the novice provisional teacher; and * Completes a comprehensive mentor training program with a curriculum that includes, at a minimum, training on the school district's teaching evaluation rubric and practice instrument, Professional Standards for Teachers, NJSLS, classroom observation sills, facilitating adult learning, and leading reflective conversations about teaching practice. Roles and Responsibilities: * Responsible for providing one-to-one mentoring support to novice provisional educators for the first year of employment, which is defined as a minimum of 30 weeks. * Develop a professional sustain mentoring relationship with the novice teacher * Provide support through guidance, assistance, information, and professional mentoring. * Consult with, collaborate with and coach a Candidate through effective practice. * Maintain confidentiality and discretion about the activities, reflections and information from Induction. * Assist the Candidate in the completion of all Induction program requires. * Complete Mentor log after each interaction with the novice teacher * Submit monthly mentor log to the Human Resource Department * The mentor teacher and novice provisional teacher holding a Certificate of Eligibility (CE) must meet at least once per week for the first eight weeks of the teaching assignment and once per week for the first four weeks holding a Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) Compensation: * • Candidates enrolled in the PTP are responsible for payment of mentoring fees during the first provisional year. * • The school district's administrative office is responsible for overseeing the payment of mentors, and payment may not be conferred directly from provisional novices to mentor. * • The following amounts are paid by the mentee the last week of the school year 2023-2024 through the district (AUL Business Office (BO). The BO will pay the mentor teacher once your check clears.
