Job Description Skydweller requires the state of the art in weather prediction and modelling of atmospheric effects. Key to this will be understanding the atmospheric physics associated with weather prediction and the knowledge of how to develop large scale systems to predict weather. The system being developed by Skydweller must determine current and forecasted weather conditions for all altitudes, including the direction and speed of wind, cloud cover, and precipitation. Skydweller weather reports contain much more information than typical weather reports. They are different from other weather reports because they take into account what conditions may affect a flight. If heavy turbulence is likely at one altitude, the Skydweller operator needs to know ahead of time what altitude he or she can fly to avoid the turbulence. The Skydweller weather prediction system being developed must rely on weather radar, detailed physics-based computer models, weather station information, Skydweller onboard sensors and other tools to develop weather reports and predictions. Rewards The Skydweller weather modelling and prediction system will represent the state of the art in weather prediction and modelling of atmospheric physics. Challenges Predicting weather is challenging and sometimes frustrating. Because Skydweller will fly at all hours, the weather lead may have to work nights, weekends, and holidays, especially if there is an urgent need for their services. Qualifications * Have an analytical mind and the ability to work under pressure. * Have extensive software development experience in either weather prediction codes or codes that model atmospheric physics. * Have a familiarity with aviation and aviation weather requirements. Requirements * US Citizen * Atmospheric Science/Meteorology degree or related field (Physics, Math, Atmospheric Science, Computer Science). Masters or PhD degree preferred. * Ability to develop software to model and predict weather and/or atmospheric physics. * Candidate should have extensive software development experience developing weather prediction models or atmospheric physics models.
