Title: Probation Officer Senior: P&P District #31 Chesapeake #P3127 State Role Title: Probation Officer I - 69091 Hiring Range: $55,429.00 - $99,425.00 Pay Band: 4 Agency: Dept of Corr - Central Admin Location: Chesapeake P&P Agency Website: www.vadoc.virginia.gov Recruitment Type: Agency Employee Only - A Job Duties Provides supervision and monitoring of probationers from Courts and the Parole Board in accordance with DOC standards; to enhance public safety through supervision, follow-up, and the use of community resources, and commitment or re-commitment if necessary. Supervises a specialized caseload that consist of high-risk substance use disorder (SUD) probationers; performs investigations, casework and administrative services. Effectively applies evidence-based practices including effective communication skills, principles, and techniques to promote internal change for the probationer. Collaborates with probationer, district, and community resources to develop and manage individualized treatment plans. Make home and community contacts in accord with case needs and supervision plans; prepare Pre-sentence Investigations, sentencing guidelines, and other reports as assigned in a timely manner; testify and provide sentencing recommendations to the court/attorney. Emphasis on coaching and mentoring of all line probation officers, covering vacancies, providing training for new staff, and reviewing presentence reports for the district. Minimum Qualifications Valid operator's license. Considerable experience working directly with diverse groups of inmates or probationers, co-workers and community agencies in a criminal justice and/or human services setting to accomplish collaborative and individual goals. Experience providing high volume case management supervision, counseling and documenting case activities on an on-going basis in a fast-paced criminal justice and/or human services setting. Experience gathering information, creating, reviewing and presenting reports to official or administrative entities. Experience with planning and directing projects and training others. Demonstrated skill in the use of Microsoft Office to include Gmail, Word, and Excel. Demonstrated experience keying pertinent information into an automated record system. The selected candidate must be eligible and have the ability to obtain VCIN certification. Demonstrated ability to be a team player. Demonstrated leadership skills and position attitude. Additional Considerations Advanced knowledge in criminal justice and/or another human services field. Awareness of Evidence Based Practices and Reentry initiatives. Experience with direct delivery of human services, including considerable experience related to probation and parole practices. CSAC or relative experience with SUD services, practices, & supervision.
