DESCRIPTION Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity. We are looking for a Development Model Maker with expert experience in mechanical prototyping. This position will work side by side with Engineering teams to develop creative solutions to support Kuiper Manufacturing and Engineering. Key job responsibilities * Work independently to machine, fabricate, assemble and modify tooling & test equipment * Ability to be flexible, support changing priorities and ambitious deadlines * Support other development, production and facilities teams as required * Must have valid driver's license and able to satisfy Amazon driver eligibility criteria. * Must be able to lift up to 49 pounds on some occasions, stand/walk for up to 8-10 hours (with breaks), and able to frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Candidates must be 18 years or older with the ability to understand and adhere to all job requirements and safety guidelines. A day in the life You will employ both conventional and digital manufacturing techniques to create engineering models, prototypes and one off devices. We are a one stop shop to get ideas moving, fixed or improved to support engineering efforts. About the team The Tooling Operations team is a diverse group of Technicians who provide mechanical support to Project Kuiper. Delivering creative and effective solutions in real time is our forte BASIC QUALIFICATIONS * 4+ years working experience in a relevant field such as prototype fabrication, prototype machining or as a Model Maker * Knowledge of sound machining principals including setup, cutter selection and order of operations. Ability to hold tolerances down to +/- .0005 * Must be able to lift up to 49 pounds on some occasions, stand/walk for up to 8-10 hours (with breaks), and able to frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Degree or certificate in a related field * Rigging experience * Knowledge of 3D Modeling/CAD * Cross-organizational communication - comfortable evangelizing ideas and concerns clearly and persuasively, in both verbal and written forms. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $70,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $126,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
