Position Overview

The VP, Sales and Marketing reports to the President of MTI and works closely with other executives to create and manage the overall business development and marketing strategies for the company. The key function of the VP role is to identify key strategic initiatives including identifying and cultivating large, key accounts, prospecting and execution of partnerships, technology evaluations, licensing agreements, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and other development activities on a global basis working closely with functional leaders to clearly articulate the rationale for opportunities and ensure alignment with overall strategic direction.

Strategy development includes helping to drive the creation and communication of MTI’s long-range global business strategies and supporting the execution of those strategies over multiyear horizons. As a trusted advisor to MTI leadership, the role is responsible for facilitating the prioritization and execution of strategic investments across growth initiatives, business partnerships and acquisition opportunities.

Essential Job Functions

Overall

Create, execute, and monitor a strategic business development plan and collaborate with Leadership Team on Sales and Marketing goals to achieve corporate objectives with emphasis on growing top line. Develop a strategic marketing plan to advance brand identity, broaden sales, and increase awareness across key stakeholder audiences. Identifying challenges, emerging issues and strategic gaps faced by the organization, working with the leadership team and staff to recognize internal and external opportunities and solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them. Provide feedback to P&L leaders regarding their sales targets and growth opportunities. Help to capitalize on value creation opportunities by working closely with the sales, P&L leaders and operations management team to develop creative workable solutions to customer needs. M&A

Challenge business leaders to address strategic needs through the pursuit and execution of acquisitions including gap analysis, target identification and approach (building on key partner relationships where appropriate) and business case development. Build acquisition pipeline and evaluate attractiveness of potential targets. Develop and maintain executive relationships with M&A prospects. Provide leadership on vetting synergies of potential acquisition targets including insights on technologies that are potential for either organic or inorganic growth. Execute commercial and business due diligence on targets including assisting in the development of financial sales forecasts and synergy models. Strategic Accounts

Lead and cultivate overall company relationships with identified strategic/large key accounts to ensure satisfaction and drive/grow business. Work closely with P&L sales leaders and product managers to drive expansion opportunities in customers. Build strategic relationships with key contacts within large customer organizations to understand and develop opportunities for creating value and find synergies/opportunities across the entire company. Track competitive positions and strategic actions, and evaluate emerging adjacencies offering potential opportunities and disruptions. Market & Strategy Definition

Provide education to the leadership team, P&L leaders and global sales with respect to markets, products and capabilities. Assist P&L leaders establish new business product, vertical, and geography growth strategies. Assist product managers in the identification of emerging markets and new technology developments. Consolidate, synthesize and share relevant insights into the macroeconomic, demographic, technical and commercial trends effecting our markets. Monitor and analyze market sizing, segmentation and growth rates across key geographies, industries and application segments. With Marketing, identify key shows to attend as well as relevant meetings of industry customers, suppliers, and competitors to maximize knowledge sharing, solution selling, and opportunity development. Requirements

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Bachelor’s Degree in related engineering or business field is required; MBA is preferred. A minimum 12 years of related business experience within executive industrial business development or sales management at a senior level. Experienced with deal architecture and closing revenue-based strategic relationships including customization of solutions. Proven “business-to-business” sales leadership in the electric motor and motion industries. Knowledge of the fundamentals of the electric motion industry and deep knowledge with industry leaders and competitors. Demonstrated success in initiating sales plans, analyzing profitability of prospects, and the ability to understand the competitive influences and risks associated. Technical fluency and broad understanding of modern manufacturing, automation and industrial information practices. A passion and track record for driving innovation and being a catalyst for growth (including the ability to rally others from within and outside the company to pursue an emerging opportunity). Success in building and managing strategic partnerships which created mutual value and sustainable differentiation. Superior communication skills and be able to convincingly communicate and defend views to senior management and actively engage colleagues to make joint decisions. Successful history of influencing and persuading senior management to pursue and/or reject prospective transactions. Tenacious when the right deal has presented itself, in driving to conclusion but can say no to deals that do not support the strategy or business goals of the Company. Strong experience in completing transactions with sufficient depth of experience in key functional areas to understand key drivers in the transaction value and the capability to understand and influence the teams supporting a transaction. Strong working knowledge of financial income statements, balance sheets, and key business ratios and metrics. Strong knowledge of Steel Business System or similar systems that have a culture and focus on operational excellence, Strategy Deployment, Variation Reduction (root cause & six sigma), Lean Manufacturing (SMED, Standard Work, Kaizens, Value Stream Mapping), and Solution Selling. Understands industry dynamics, the competitive landscape and identification of opportunities for expansion in key growth markets and regions. Experience working across a variety of global locations with third parties and customers.
